Come on guys what's the big deal? Why don't escorts freelance from an agency when asked to do so? They should feel honored to be asked to go it on their own! Are they afraid the agency will fire them? Do they really want the agency to have that kind of "hold" on them. Do they really want to be that controlled? If I were in their place (which I am not) I would want to talk with my clients and gain an understanding that you just can not do through an agency. Lets hear some chatter guys.....from both "Clients" and "Escorts".

A reputable escort would not consider what you are suggesting

because he would be fired by the agency if they found out. Don't

forget that there are benefits when you work for an agency; you do not have be involved in any of the business aspects. Also, the

agency handles troublesome clients, i.e. clients who become obsessed with a particular escort. I agree that at first glance

it seems like the thing to do, but I would wonder about any

agency escort who would agree to see a client outside the

agency. You probably couldn't trust him either in the long run.

Some escorts do freelance and work for agencies, although that's very rare and it probably has more to do with the agency wanting to have the escort on staff rather than the other way around. Guys who work for agencies don't have to deal with any of the administrative stuff (i.e., the phone calls, the e-mail, etc.) that independents have to attend to and there's something to be said for that. Why should he risk being fired just to please a particular client?

And I think many guys, especially younger guys or those new to escorting, want to "try it out" and see if it's a job they can do. Signing on with an agency let's them work more as an employee, as others have mentioned that way they don't have to do the advertising, handle all the phone calls, etc. I suppose there are a number of guys who start with an agency and then decide to go it alone after a period of time in order to keep more of the money or to be more autonomous. I think most agencies offer their guys pretty flexible schedules so they can decide when they want to work and when they don't. It's easy enough to be unavailable in that situation whereas when you're dealing with the client directly that might not be as easy.

I know that many guys who work for the various agencies here in DC also work on their own, primarily via AOL.

I wonder why the freelancers don't try to undercut the agencies a bit on their fee though. If agencies are charging $175 or 200 per hour why wouldn't a freelancer charge $150? He still gets more money for himself and probably would do better business. I know the great fee debate has been discussed here many times though...

LAST EDITED ON Feb-19-01 AT 06:19PM (EST)[p]Though I was never personally comfortable working for an agency, it occurs to me that another perk for a newbie would be that until he has met enough clients to develop his inner telephone ear, an Agency could be better at filtering out the creeps.
