Ali Gator
Oh please let this be the 30th Anniversary revival of 'Sunset Blvd' which makes its way to Broadway next year ! Actress Sarah Brightman, 63, who last starred in a musical more than three decades ago in Andrew Lloyd Webber's "Aspects of Love" on Broadway, will take the stage as Norma Desmond in the Australian 30th Anniversary revival of Andrew Lloyd Webber's "Sunset Boulevard". Brightman originated the role of 'Christine' in ALW's "Phantom of the Opera" back on the West End and Broadway in the 1980s. Since leaving stage musicals in the early 1990s, she has become the world's best-selling soprano, with global sales of over 30 million, and over 1 billion streams worldwide. Directed by Paul Warwick Griffin with Set and Costume Design by Morgan Large, this revival promises to be a "lavish production" similar to the stunning sets and costumes of the original productions which opened in 1993 - 95 in London, New York, Australia, Canada and Germany. Like the original productions, the producers promise they will be bringing back the glamorous Golden Age of Hollywood to the stage. A West End '30th Anniversary Revival' is opening on October 12th in a bare-bones production directed by Jamie Lloyd. Since it opened in previews a few weeks ago, it has gotten mostly mixed reviews. The West End revival, starring Nicole Sherzinger, will close on Janaury 6, 2024. This Australian revival of Sunset Boulevard will premiere in Melbourne in May 2024 at the Princess Theatre followed by a season at the Sydney Opera House in August.
