Check your politics at the door, put on your disco shoes and a pair of ear plugs. Now you’re ready for the David Byrne, Fatboy Slim production of Here Lies Love. It’s the musical about the life of Imelda Marcos all done to a disco beat. It has the distinction of being the first Broadway show with an all Filipino cast. Lots of talent in this show.

Saw this in previews, but also saw it a decade ago at The Public.

The theater transformation is impressive.

The show was nicely done, even if I wasn't sold on the actress's portrayal of Imelda Marcos. I didn't feel the show ended with the audience clearly understanding how truly fucking horrible she is.

When it was at The Public, Ruthie Ann Miles did a better job of acting the role, making Marcos a true monster by that last song.

Since Lea Salonga left the show in early September, this show has been struggling at the box office (and papered on a regular basis). It was already struggling before she left, but it really has dropped dramatically since then. There's a lot of speculation on whether this will make it through the holiday season (November - December), so buy your tickets (or grab some free tickets) now, not later.
