I wonder if escorts are able to live off the money earned from escorting, or if the escorts on this board have other jobs or careers. I started hiring escorts in 1990, and the agency I used charged 150 - 200 dollars per hr. The rates have not changed in nearly 20 years, although the minimum wage has increased 88%.

Years ago, when I used an SF escort agency that employed both male and female escorts, I was told the women earned far more per hour than the men in the same market. The rationale given was that "there were more men willing to do it, and more men willing to accept less money". Basically, the owners of that agency treated the men pretty shabily in comparision to the women.

See what happend to that agency: http://www.metroactive.com/papers/metro/02.04.99/cover/prostitution-9905.html

Anyway, when I hired a well known porn star at the height of his career, I was shocked to find out that he had little business. Apparently charging $300 for an hr instead of $200 eliminated alot of clients for him. He also was looking for a landscaping job in order to supplement his income. Although he was "modeling" for Falcon Studios, and received top billing in several films, he was paid a low rate, considering the money the studio makes off their products. I paid his rate for 2 hrs, and never regretted it. Apparently many clients try to "negotiate" the fees, and I think that's a pretty humiliating thing to do to an escort.

Generally do escorts have other jobs? Does escorting endager other jobs? Are you often asked to lower your hourly rate, and how do you handle that?

Speaking for myself I have two regular hourly jobs. Because I am on the fringe and will never conform to the muscle A&F type because it's not me for now I have to have at least one hourly job. Plus with having the main hourly job it comes with kick ass health insurance, a 401k and a pension. I have two hourly jobs right now so I can save up for my hopeful move to Chicago and pay off some cc bills to boost my credit rating for more favorable rate when we buy a condo as well as a new motorcycle for Boobers and my new scoot :)

Hugs,

Greg
