I picked up a ticket today at TKTS for this show now in preview. It's an interesting show and I enjoyed it especially since I like classical music. There's a pianist, Diane Walsh, who plays Beethoven's 33 Variations during the show. She's very good.

Jane looks terrific for 71 and while I didn't think she was the strongest stage actress I've ever seen, I thought she gave a good solid performance. It also stars Colin Hanks, Tom Hanks son.

There was a group of protestors across from the theater screaming at the ticket holders as they entered the theater. It seems Jane still elicts a strong response for her anti Vietnam actions. If you go, be prepared to be yelled at.

They can "yell" at me all they want. I see photos of these jerks holding signs that say, "Support Our Troops." Jane did support the troops. She wanted to get them home. History vindicates her. But these assholes will never see that.

Raise one at the VFW.

I, too, saw "33 Variations" this past week. The audience and I had a brief intro from writer/director Moises Kaufmann who came on stage just before the show began and I thought to myself, "Oh, here it comes, he and Jane have had "artistic differences" and the role will now be played by Suzanne Somers...” or something like that! However he thanked the audience for coming to a preview. Called us "intrepid" because the show that we would be seeing is not the final version and he has been adding and deleting from the original script. Interesting.

The show lacks spark, although I enjoyed it. No one bolted at intermission, so that's a pretty good sign. I enjoyed Jane's performance very much. Today's NY Times Sunday Arts and Leisure section has a lengthy article on her return to the stage after 46 years, and how she is reacting to this and her preparation for it.

Alas, the charming little musical “The Story of My Life” closes tonite.

Sorry to hear "The Story of my Life" is closing since I've been reading good things about it.

Anyone seen "Becky Shaw"? Also got good reviews but wasn't up at TKTS on Saturday which is how i wound up with "33 Variations".

I also saw 33 Variations on Saturday. It still needs some tightening before it opens, and Jane needs to get into her role some more.

But there are two really hot men on stage, in my opinion. Colin Hanks is gorgeous - especially his shirtless scene. And Erik Steele, the guy who plays Anton Schindler, is a real cutie.
