Spas in NYC

general question For all you spa-goers.. What time of day do you usually come get your massages? I’ve only done it during the late afternoons but curious if more people go at night. There’s usually not that many guys who work so curious if there’s ever been a “rush hour” for massages. ?

Because I’m a late-night worker, I usually go earlier in the day around noonish (most of the spas open about 11:00-11:30). This has worked well for me in terms of massage quality—the masseur is fresh and not tired yet and with so few other customers that early, he tends to take a few more awesome, ahem, liberties. The only downside is that most of the “in demand” masseurs mentioned in this thread seem to never be available until the afternoon.

I went once at night, before closing, to Greenhouse. I was a tad tipsy after leaving the bar and was the very last client. We had the place to ourselves and the experience was quite memorable. The masseur was George.

I went once to Babylon very early in the morning, immediately after working all night, around 8am (Babylon Is an exception as they’re open 24/7!) and that was friggin’ amazing! The Masseur’s name honestly escapes me—I think it was Jasper or Jessie or something like that. Slim, 30ish attractive and VERY skilled Thai guy (who, the entire time, I thought was Central or South American until I asked).

If it’s during the weekend, my times are random and the experiences more hit or miss.

As with all of this, your mileage may vary.

So Ahmed from 27 spa is back after a month long hiatus [his passion is to explore the world]. I was very excited, I made an appointment, and was greeted with a big smile. He’s still on my -top of the list go to masseur.

Relaxation massage at its finest! Never in a hurry. He always ask about my expectations, such as the kind of pressure, where the ache at, Always checking you out if you are okay, very attentive, no demands and no pretensions. He looks fit though compare to the last time I met him, he got her hair long which I think is cute.

He’s ok. Massage isn’t super amazing which I feel is key. But the additional parts are fun. I would see him again but definitely not if I wanted a great massage as focus.

true confession - Im in my 30s, healthy and in shape, no ED problems. One of my favorite things to do is take a couple generic viagras, go to four seasons or renew, and get a massage with a raging hardon and see how the masseurs react to it or notice it. Anyone have a similar pastime or experiences?

I love having a raging hard on during a massage too (and I promise I’m not bragging) but I have one so easily. Literally undressing I get hard thinking about a guy rubbing my exposed body and if for some reason I’m not hard then, as soon as he does rub me and I turn over I’m hard anyway. And that’s all a rush for me too.

Ok the massage was decent , I believe I did a 90 mins with him . A friendly guy but then coming close to the end he did The happy stufff which was ok but afterwards he mentioned that’s usually he gets a high tip . So the massage was 90 , I tipped him 80 to 90 in the room and his openly expressed his disappointment , I tipped further when I paid at the desk. That whole tipping situation and his reaction spoilt the evening .

That’s gross. First I don’t think a handy is worth $90 then to say he acted disappointed is BS. It’s not as though it takes any longer and yes I get that it is above expectations - it isn’t worth that much to me.

No, I would not tip an online masseur 50-100%. I have a regular masseur who charges $100/hr., and that's what I pay him. No tip. This is fine with him. (He often has discounted specials.) I have another masseur, who charges $100 for 90 minutes, and I give him $120. The first time I did that, he said, "You know, my rate is only $100." (I just feel weird paying only $100 for 90 minutes.) I merely said, "Yes, I know. That's OK."

As I've pointed out before, the spa masseurs keep only 1/3 of what we pay. That's why my usual tip is $60 on a $60/hr massage in a spa.

Spa Masseurs aren’t usually licensed. Their options are working at a rub and tug or a restaurant in China town.

They are making way more as a masseur than they would serving food. I’m not trying to rip anyone off but the amount of tips some people pay is high and leads to these Masseurs acting disappointed when they get a $40 tip.

Had a disappointing experience at Shangrila after such a great one my first time with Rodrigo. I had Pedro. Muscular, Beautiful latino. Not sure if he's trained in massage. He didn't even massage my shoulders and neck, he started at my shoulder blades and then just rubbed there to my lower back most of of the time. Pressure was fine at least. It eventually ended and I got dressed. I walked out to pay and Jack was at the desk and asked if everything was ok because I wanted 60 minutes. I look at my phone and it was only 45 minutes so the guy shorted me 15 minutes! Jack seemed really concerned the guy shorted me and I asked if I could pay for 45 and he said yes so that was really nice of him. I said it was fine as long as I'm not paying for the full hour. Anyway, thank goodness for Jack. He's such a nice guy but really disappointing experience tonight. It's always the hot ones! :-)

I know for a fact that Jack wants his customers to leave satisfied and happy. It sounds to me that you didn't get either from this visit. I think you should let Jack know of your experience. When I visited Shangri-La, I had a Thai guy named Patrick and he was most accommodating. Better luck next time.

Yea, the fact that Jack only made me pay for the 45 minutes was great. Other spas like Super Men and Manta short you all the time but still except you to pay. I had no idea he shorted me until Jack said so. Had Jack made me pay full price I would have complained. The massage itself was fine, just repetitive but I chalk it up to him being new and needing more practice. I don't ever feel the need to complain about the masseurs technique, I just make a point not to get them again. I've certainly had much much worse elsewhere.

Did they say when the construction will start? I've been to Premier 57 it was a nice place inside. Anyone ever been to K-Town? I've heard about it but haven't been yet.

The construction at premier 57 hasn't started yet. Though I think they are just opening the doorway between the two areas and will have the locker room doors closed.

K-Town Spa is ok, the steam room is smaller than premier 57. There was an attendant there watching everyone when I was there, though he did leave for a while. The coed area isn't great but isn't bad either. I don't think they have a bade pool though

That proves my point and at least, you know that the boss is watching and cares about his customer service. This would make me feel as if the place is worthy of another try for my business.

I can’t understand why you are so nervous about getting a good relaxation massage? I think you are expecting more or some “extras”.

All you need to do is to show up, ask for the price of a particular service you need (scrub/massage/facial), and pay. That’s it!

Now, in some spas, you can ask for a “go see” to choose the variety of masseurs available for your liking.

If you sense that the therapist is showing nasty attitude in a few minutes of the service, politely request to change therapist. Simple as that.

In addition, never assume that all therapist tolerate “happy endings”. You may ask. Remember, respects begets respect!

Hi kewltouch, I was not looking for sex or hook up or “extra”. Never. I was nervous because there was always something unexpected. I just wanted to know what you guys experience and if what happened to me was normal.

Jack is in the process of hiring at Shangri-la. His goal is to have an ethinic mix of masseurs to satisfy everyone's taste. Kind of like the flavor of the day. Even though vanilla may be my favorite flavor, I may be in the mood for chocolate today. I believe this to be smart marketing skills.

Does Jack help you pick a masseur that fits your taste? I always feel awkward asking who is available because it’s just a list of names of people I don’t know - I’d like to see who they are. Haven’t been to shangrila or utopia yet, but if Jack is accommodating, I could check it out

I have only called and asked for a specific masseur. I've never gone and selected one based on who was available. I'm sure you could though.

I highly recommend establishing a relationship with Jack. I’ve not been to Shangrila but he has always steered me to the best choice available at Utopia.I don’t reserve but usually text Jack a few hours or hour before for a guy that will not only give a serious massage experience but might be interactive. As a matter of fact I’ve spent a few wonderful sessions with Jack himself.

I heard it a lot, believe you me. Don’t make an excuse given the fact that you are in this forum. Lol.

If you are going to an all male spa and getting a hard on, it rings a bell. lol

But anyway, if they offered you “extras”, and you don’t want it, politely say No. Have your tip ready based on how satisfied you are of the massaged rendered to you.

Good luck and Happy hunting.
