Anyone Read The Prophets?

Described on Amazon as "A singular and stunning debut novel about the forbidden union between two enslaved young men on a Deep South plantation, the refuge they find in each other, and a betrayal that threatens their existence."

The Prophets has great ratings too. 69% are five star, and 18% are four star. (1150 ratings.)

So, it's a gay love story full of drama. Why couldn't I get into it? The writing just didn't work for me.

I had the same reaction as you, Lucky. Although the description made me feel I "should" like it, I thought the writing was just so-so. Reverted to a behavor of my youth & skimmed it for the "good parts." They weren't all that good, either.
