I do book reviews for a local gay magazine, so I get advanced copies of lots of GLBT books. Thought I'd alert you to one coming out (on September 8th) which should definitely be of interest to most of you here.

When I picked up "Out of the Blue: Confessions of an Unlikely Porn Star" by Blue Blake, I figured "Oh, great ... another 'tell all' ego booster by an over-the-hill porn star." To my surprise, the book was well-written, very witty (actually, it was hysterically funny in many places) and a great look at the gay porn industry by someone who had experience not just as an actor (who could actually act) but also a director and screenwriter, as well as stage actor in "Making Porn" in several cities. He's brutally honest telling tales about lots of those in the industry, from Chi Chi Larue and Gino Colbert, to Al Parker, Zak Spears, Rex Chandler, Ryan Idol and Jeff Stryker. He details his early days in his native UK, working as a "masseur" at a health spa, and eventually as an escort. From his debut video ("The Blake Twins: Raw and Uncut", co-starring Gage Blake, who wasn't even related to him) through short and ongoing stints at a half dozen other studios, he provides a lot of detail about those operations. For a while, he was in a three-way relationship with competitive bodybuilder Chris Duffy and his wife, and is actually in a longtime relationship himself today.

Publisher is Running Press, release date 9/8/08, cover price $14.95, Amazon is taking advance orders at $10.17.

I recently saw a piece on HBO (maybe one of the 'real Sex' re-runs?) about the making of gay porn and they interviewed Blu Blake & one of his actors (& the actor's wife, who was on the set watching her husband top another guy!) Blake came across as an interesting character.

(They also interviewed Jeff Stryker - who came across as much less interesting (tho perhaps a *bit savvier than I expected) & still very full of himself.

Thanks for the heads-up on the book!:-)
