I joined a popular gay site a few weeks go and decided t post some inquiries on some escorts and members from Chicago. I was smitten by the photo of this guy, who although listed his age as 27 years of age seem very likeable, interesting and well..he rings my you know what!:)

http://www.gayromeo.com/woetten

I wrote him and my introduction letter stated, " Hello there! I am from chicago too and would like to meet with you. I described myself and what I do in life!.... I am good with friends and I look foward to knowing you... maybe go out and have dinner, have a drink or two in a bar and explore the possibilities.

Would u like to communicate with me?" (I think this is a very general exploratory introduction to someone I do not know!)

He responded!

"yes plz

but i have got to inform u am on a tour in Ghana a country in west

Africa for a show and some visit to certain tourist sites which will take about coming home in the mid june so i could meet u on time

i apologizes to u plz but plz i wanna build a strong relationship with u in this other as uknow a student has no money in purchasing a laptop so plz buy me one so that i could chat with u as often as possible or plz u can send it to me here in Ghana in cash form so that i could buy it here.it costs $2000 here plz.send it through western union."

I swear to God , I was floored and the big bells of Notre Dame and Big Ben reverberating a cacophonous chime of S C A M! Stay Away! in my ears --I looked at his page again. And voile! I saw some red flags...I honestly did not see them, because as i said the photos were of a man/boy that rang my bells -- I was gaga to quickly send a message. :)

I know I have choices on what to do now:

A) Ignore the letter and move on without looking back Put Ignore on his page!

B) Tell him a nice story of my own and see how far he would carry his tune! maybe ask for a cam2cam face up. I am aware there are some fake cam2 cam broadcasts-- Just wanna see if he can make the photo move!

C) Report it to the site owner that they have a scammer on board (but then again, I have no proof...But Ghana? what in the world will a Chicago student do there? $2,000 by Western Union for a laptop to be able to communicate with me? Hello? Dr. Phil? Oprah, Ellen...what do you guys think?),

D) or have fun and bring this episode to the board and maybe...maybe you guys can think of some ways to either straighten my brains or shoo the scammer who is in my mind,is definitely trying to scam, lonely guys around the world ($2,000 a pop?) Those photos will hook someone or some people from HongKong or Mexico or even Kansas-- and maybe these lonely hearts would sell ther possessions to come up with some money for this poor stranded white student in Africa!!!!! I don't care if it is $100 or $2,000-- He has to be stopped!

A friendly poster suggeted my friends and I play a game with him *wink* Me bad today! :)

Any suggestions?

You are being scammed. When I read the escorts description none of it made any sense. I would simply move on. Ghana is notorious for scammers. At work I get daily emails from deposed royalty or high ranking officials who need my bank account number so that they can transfer funds which they promise to share with me. They have probably heard every type of response and simply move on until they reel in a live one. It's a numbers game.

I do think alerting the webmaster is a good idea.

His little description of himself on Gay Romeo does not really look like it was written by a native English speaker--however it is only a little blurb and some people are just horrible typi$3^*ts, I mean typists--the letter he sent to you is definitely not by a native speaker unless elementary schools have fallen a lot further in quality than I knew.

It is definitely a scam. Gayromeo has a way to report these type of users. I have a Gayromeo membership and I constantly get messages like that from users in Ghana. This is a well known scam.

As I posted originally... I went gaga with the photos...they were gorgeou! Forgetting that the image may not be really who he said he is! I sent him my message ofintroduction!

I did post that boo boo in my thread and I admitted that when I went back to his page,I saw the HUGE RED HOOBOY INSPIRED Flags!:) :)which of course, opened my eyes immediately!

I have also seen a lot of newcomers: escorts and non escorts, new, member and old ,in that gay site, who in my opinion have the same flags! Tsk, tsk, tsk, From now on I will stick to The FORUM for feedbacks! :)

Maybe in retrospect, I was confident sending the dude a message because he supposedly comes from my city(?) :( Maybe he mean another Chicago...somewhere in Tra lala, West Africa!

While having lunch, a good friend told me to play with him! Sort of entrap him in his own scam... I thought hard and fast about doing it...But I remember what the sage admonition Daddy posted in his Throll thread...In the end, he might eat me alive (Not that I mind if he was for real! But I dread to be eaten by him not knowing if he is an ogre or a witch doctor from Ghana! :) They simply don't ring my bells!

Thanks for the reply! :)

You think?

Why waste one more second with such a bullshit artist?

I don't understand your concern that some lonely guy might sell his stuff in order to raise the 2 grand to send him for a laptop.

If anyone is THAT stupid, he deserves to be had.

If you do write to him again, you may want to ask him how he managed to answer your inquiry on his nonexistent lap top.

Your heads up is appreciated. But why you would even suggest a consideration of playing "games" with the person running this scam is way beyond me. What would be the point of doing so? Are you that bored?

Ryan,

I must admit sometimes, I have that playful streak in my thoughts...but I always think of the consequences and what good it would do to me...and everything ends there.

" D) or have fun and bring this episode to the board and maybe...maybe you guys can think of some ways to either straighten my brains or shoo the scammer who is in my mind,is definitely trying to scam... " where you referring to one of my declared choices? :) I did think about it not out of boredom but perhaps to give the scammer a dose of his own reality -- but I stopped at that juncture...It would not amount to anything...I did, as I mentioned...reported him to the site administrator!

:) Thanks for the input :)

I do think you should bring it to the attention of the website. You have no proof, but it is obvious. Let the website decide what to do. You may prevent some other guy from getting scamed. Anything from Africa has to be suspect. I personally have inherited several estates worth millions of dollars in Africa but first I must send them my personal financial information. LOL

LOL! You made my day with your reply...:)

I did just that! I reported him and the perpetrator has since been deleted from the website.:)

I agree...the moment Ghana popped out from Nowhere, followed by western union and Cash and $2,000 ...I immediately knew! But of course the only proof I had was the e-mail, which I shared with the admins of the site -- they decided to cancel his login name.

:) Thank you for the reply.
