Fox's Ron Corning has been dropped and I am sad. Good Day was filled with hunks..Ron C, Reed Lamberty ..(Elaine....ooooh Yeah)!!, Rick Folbaum and our very own Mike Woods who I have met and is even better looking and hunkier in person. He was very good as an anchor.

This plain sucks!! I wonder who they will replace him with!!

Ch. 5 drops anchor on Ron Corning

There will be no more Ron Corning in the morning.

There will be no more Corning in the morning.

WNYW/Ch. 5 has dropped Ron Corning as co-anchor of the station's breakfast news show "Good Day New York," the Daily News confirmed Monday.

Corning was on vacation last week when he learned he would no longer be an a.m. anchor alongside Jodi Applegate.

"We're very surprised by Fox's decision not to pick up an option to extend Ron," said Corning's agent, Laurie Jacoby of the Napoli Management Group.

There was a window in Corning's contract that allowed Ch. 5 either to cut Corning loose - or continue him on the anchor desk.

"We appreciate Ron's many contributions to WNYW during his time with 'Good Day New York,'" said a station spokeswoman.

Dropping Corning is the first change since Dianne Doctor was named vice president of news at Ch. 5. Doctor is a veteran news executive who has also worked at WNBC/Ch. 4, WWOR/Ch. 9 and the New Jersey Network.

The move suggests Ch. 5 has a plan ahead for "GDNY."

Corning joined Ch. 5 from ABC News in August 2006, and clicked with Applegate from the start. Before Ch. 5, he was co-anchor of ABC's overnight "World News Now" and ABC's "World News This Morning."

"He loved the show, he loved Jodi," Jacoby said. "It's a disappointment."

"GDNY" was once the dominant player in the local morning news race. In the past year, ratings have been a struggle for the program, and the buzz around the station lately has been major that changes are ahead.

Who will fill Corning's slot full time was not revealed. Reid Lamberty filled in for Corning yesterday. He's expected to switch off with Rick Folbaum for the next two weeks.

That said, Doctor in the past has raided other stations for talent. While at Ch. 2, and working there under current Ch. 5 general manager Lew Leone, Doctor lured Jim Rosenfield, Ti-Hua Chang and Scott Weinberger from Ch. 4 to Ch. 2. Weinberger and Chang are gone at Ch. 2.

Rosenfield remains, although he could leave at any time because a lineup shuffle has left Ch. 2 in breach of his contract, making him a possible factor in any Ch. 5 changes.

As for Corning, Jacoby said he's in the market for a new position.

"He's going to get another fabulous job," Jacoby said. "We're going to work hard to make that happen."

Mike Woods has been discussed in other forums(Muscle Service) where they said he was gay w/boyfriend but I don't have first hand knowledge. I have seen Mike on 2 occasions..once walking near Union Square. I went up to him said hi and I also saw him working out at the 19th St gym a few years ago.. He is very friendly handsome and built!!
