I saw the OBC at Lincoln Center and this filmed West End cast. While I think overall it's a penultimate version of this show, I do think the stage at the Vivian Beaumont (a thrust) works better for this particular production. When it was in London, they put it on a traditional proscenium stage and it lost something being so far away from the audience.

 

Classics done well, like this one, are brilliant. I have a ton of respect for guys like Bartlett Sher.

I always felt like they blew the set design budget on the opening boat....

 

(which indeed was much more impressive on a thrust stage)

 

and then could only afford 6 annoying columns for the entire rest of the show.

 

Nonetheless, it was a wonderful performance.
