Thursday night I made my nightly run to Kroger to do some shopping and I was browsing the magazines and something caught my eye. My favorite Food Network cook Paula Dean has a new holiday recipe magazine out right now. There is tons of great baking recipes listed for Thanksgiving and Xmas that is sure to please the sweetest tooths in the land. For me receiving a plate full of cookies, cupcakes or a cake that is baked up with love is one of the best gifts that I can receive during the holidays.

Hugs,

Greg

>Hint Hint

LOL No hints here. Now if I wanted someone to send me home made yummies I would have just said get in that kitchen and make me a batch or 4 of those red velvet cupcakes! Hehe But I was just trying to planting a seed on how much some people appreciate simpler, thoughtful gifts from the heart and kitchen and not just some sweater that might have blindly picked at the last minute.

You mean I have to return all those items to Prada - what a drag!

If that Prada is such a drag, are you sure you were shopping in the right department? :p

Thanks, Greg. I do love Paula and will look for this magazine.

I saw a show of hers recently where the first recipe started with a pound of butter. So did the 2nd, and the 3rd.

Just when I was thinking "man that's a lot of butter" she said "you might think this is a lot of butter, but..." LOL

I tried her recipe for red velvet cupcakes. It's obscene! (In the good way!)

What's good enough for Benedict XVI ought to be good enough for anybody! :-)

Paula Deen is waaaay cool, has an amazing life story, and shares awesome recipes. :9

As a recommendation, try her "Chicken and Rice Casserole."

It sounds like it's a bit "pedestrian", but I've served it to gourmands and junk foodies alike and all raved over it. (FWIW, I omit the water chestnuts and add chopped sauteed green pepper and mushrooms). For the chicken, I either season and saute boneless breasts or use a grocery store deli rotisserie chicken for a fast and economical but DELICIOUS meal. To die for!! }(

Well if you can find someone the same size as you, you could always "regift" it.

Substitute tuna for chicken, noodles for rice, and peas for green beans and it makes a dandy tuna casserole too. I've been making that regularly since my Mom taught me when I was a kid. ;-)

There are very few staples guaranteed to be in my cupboard at any time, but cream of (mushroom, asparagus, celery) soup is always there just for dishes like this.

The magic of Paula's recipes is that they're simple and they all taste like comfort food.
