After seeing the festivities in both San Francisco and Los Angeles this year, the San Diego Gay Pride celebration was the best of the the three. It all seemed so civilized, what with a parade that didn't go on endlessly (but, alas, no Altoids float!) and a celebration in Balboa Park that was so well-organized that the huge crowds didn't all bump into each other. The event was notable both for the much larger percentage of white people than the others, but also for the large straight and female attendance. It seemed indeed to be a city-wide celebration. We watched the parade sharing a blanket in the park with an enthusiastic straight couple.

The Festival was quite fun, and it brought me face to face with the world of barely legal boys. A booth in the over-18 area was sponsored by Helix Studios and 8teenboy.com. There were six or seven young boys there, none looking over 18. They all seemed eager to be seen, though, and one, who looked about 13, was making sure that his hairless body was easy to see as were his barely hairy armpits. There was a brochure with the boys, or some of them, in it. I noticed that the makeup covered a lot. One of the boys had pimples for days, which was sad because he was quite handsome, and maybe was 18.

I talked to Ricki Cruz briefly. He's the one that looked 13. I was struck by his charm and poise, and, if he is being exploited, I couldn't see any evidence of it. He seemed to be relishing his time under the spotlight!

The boys all struck me as rather nelly. Next to them, however, were the two boys from the underwear company, Grinch and Gonch or something like that. The dark-haired one was quite friendly and cute, the blond moody and sullen offstage. He perked up though after he had a break and got down to his skivvies. They both wore makeup though! But stil a lot butcher than the teens.

That night A couple of us (well, three of us) did go to Tijuana for an event at the gay Club Exstasis being sponsored by Latin party promoter Club Papi. They promised expanded dark areas, lap dances, j.o. shows, full nudity, and an appearance by porn star Tommy Blade, whom I had just met that afternoon. (I had never heard of him either!)

As expected in a Latin nightclub, the show started about two hours after the stated time. During the night, about 20 hot Latin boys took to the go-go platforms and danced their little hearts out. It was up to the individual dancer how much skin to show, but most of them were pretty modest, showing butt or pubic hair, but not dick. A couple of them had erections under their skivvies. One tattoed hunk was pretty ugly, but he got the tips by showing it all and pretty fat and hard at that. All the dancers let you have a squeeze for your buck. One was taking fingers.

The show started out well, with a couple of cute guys humping and kissing each other, but the following dancers couldn't keep that spirit going. The actual stage show started around 1 am with a drag queen hosting. My favorite dancer, who had promised me a lap dance but didn't deliver, was on stage gettting rimmed and sucked, and, in turn, rimming and sucking Tommy, who then swallowed a large dildo in one fell swoop. An audience member volunteered to do the same, but he could only get about 3/4ths of it down. His reward was a blow job from the drag queen. It was hard to see a lot of the show as the stage was not high enough, but there was plenty of pushing and shoving to get closer.

The bar got quite crowded, as did the dark rooms, which I pretty much avoided. They did have a sex show back there, I am told, with fucking, but there was only room for about 20 people to see it. The promoter had promised jacking off in your face...but I never saw it coming!

All in all, the promoter did a poor job on the show. The boys made up for it in many respects, but there was no lap dancing that I was aware of. We left when the bar was so crowded that a fire would have killed us all.

The night was not over, though. We had crossed into Mexico with not even a governmental glance, and the club was a stone's throw away. But returning to the US on foot took a longer route. We were climbing a dark ramp over the freeway when two men waiting at the top accosted us. We were forced to put our hands on the wall and they emptied all of our pockets. That they were dressed as Tijuana policemen was no comfort as the force is notoriously corrupt. I would not have been surprised to find something planted on us to be followed by a shakedown. It didn't happen, though. They were just bigots hassling gays, I think. We made it home safely after that.

Was it worth it? Not really. To see Club Exstasis once is fun, but I doubt that I would go back. There was so much fun going on in San Diego itself, why bother?

By Sunday I had seen enough cute boys to last me for, well, a day...but I do recommend San Diego for a Gay Pride visit.

...interesting read. Perhaps one of these summer's I'll attend the Gay Pride festivities in San Diego and in Balboa Park. I've only done a club or two and the baths a while back! ...had fun doing both!
