Is Craig's List Down Right Now?

It's about 3AM Eastern Time on Wed, July 25th and I've noticed that the last postings on Craig's List in just about every catagory I've gone to was Tuesday, July 24th about 4:30PM. I even checked other cities in other time zones and it's been the same. About 3:30PM in Chicago and 1:30PM in San Diego. I even checked London and it was about 9PM BST for their last postings. Is the site down or is anyone else having the same problem. Maybe it's just temporary!

There was a massive power failure in the San Francisco area today. Craigslist (and google, and lots of others in the silicon valley) was affected.

You'd think they have replicated their efforts on the East Coast or somewhere in Texas so that customers would not notice the power outage in the Valley. Other business do.

*Some* businesses do that kind of mirroring. A free service that doesn't make any promise of 24/7 service probably doesn't mirror.

 

I was actually surprised by some of the enterprises disrupted by this. Craigslist didn't surprise me much, but C|net did! But again, a free service that never made any pretense of 24/7 availability.
