Definitions will vary. Usually, it's a case of telling the client what he wants to hear. Sensual can mean, "We're both naked, and you will enjoy it." Erotic usually means, "Your genitals will be in play." Scott's advice is sound: ASK! TELL what you want and expect. ASK!

Some masseurs will not list "therapeutic" because they're not LMTs, and don't claim to address aches and pains, etc. I think that's being both honest and cautious.

Like the other posters have said, ask/tell/communicate with your masseur as to what you are looking for, and be specific. So many folks assume and are left disappointed.

I always tell the providers what I’m looking for in my first communication and although I’ve been told “no” on occasion, no one has reacted negatively.

Even among masseurs who advertise both, there can be wildly differing approaches. I recently saw a masseur whose idea of “erotic” was, to me, just mildly sensual. But another masseur I’ve seen a few times told me the difference is: with erotic, we’ll get to know each other pretty well. ;-)

I'd say that sensual should mean a massage with attention to erogenous zones. Erotic should be fully nude and include mutual touch, body to body contact, more focus on erogenous zones and a manual release. Anything more than this should depend on the chemistry and shouldn't be expected at all. I don't think it's fair to expect or request a sexual encounter from someone who offers a massage, erotic or not. There are plenty of guys who offer more on escort sites.

Pretty much all massage is sensual without erotic aspects. The problem with the word use in this context is the attempt to layer in erotic intent while creating a separation with the erotic label. That's part of why the variance is so wide among providers and clients.

The only way to understand what these terms mean is to ask because every provider and every client will have a different understanding.
