Great comment, BnaC. I do BM transplants, and it's a treatment not for the weak of heart. I do think the science is interesting, but the morbidity and mortality of transplants likely far outweigh being viral free on medications. And I'm not sure I want to have a lymphoma or leukemia just to require a transplant.

Who ever thought we'd be arguing that a bone marrow transplant is worse than living with HIV?

My how times have changed!

And for the record this is more of an interesting scientific blip....than a cure all.

Many others have attempted this same "cure" and failed. There's a reason you haven't heard of another

case in the last ten years. It wasn't for lack of trying. In fact all the other attempts either died from the

treatment or had their HIV return. Also, there is a strain of HIV that is immune to this treatment.

I understand there are a few more "in the pipeline" that may also be "cured" but they're waiting for at least

a year to pass before declaring them "cured"

I am more interested in what this might open up-especially related to CCR5 and see how it can be done say without a bone marrow transplant or even chemically.

Hep C is a prime example and afflicted many people and now there are a few companies with a cure.

Hopefully with these additional cases, researchers may narrow a path to a cure. With HIV the elusive cure is always beyond the next hill-but just maybe it really is beyond the next hill?

This "cure" is clearly more risky than the disease itself. It's interesting to note, but clearly not a practical therapy.
