Hiya guys. It's been great talking to most of you the past few days. I have been thinking about traveling to Chicago but, I have no clue where the best place for me to stay would be. Any suggestions?

I moved to Chicago this time of the year when the city was in the grips of an arctic blast. Temperatures were 30 below with howling winds for the first two weeks. So yes, it CAN be very very cold but it isn't ALWAYS cold. It can also be shorts weather. ;-)

For your first visit, you'd probably want to be in/near boystown on the north side. (Lakeview neighborhood.) This place: http://www.hawthorneterrace.com/ is steps from the clubs where boys play.

Hi Lynden and welcome to the Message Board.

I travel on a regular basis to the Windy City and even visited twice during the freezing months of February in 2005 and 2006. I always stay in the downtown/Magnificent Mile area. There is a great choice of hotels and you'll be close to the business district.

Chicago weather

Following a cold spell in the first week of December, Chicago's temperatures have been quite mild -- highs in the mid-40's or better; lows hovering around or a little below freezing. There are never any guarantees, but the long-term forecast is for a warmer than normal winter.

Thanks guy! I must admit, I've checked out your photos quite a few times? If I may ask.. who took them.. very nice. Yummy!!! Also, I know this is a bit personal, but one of my good friends and favorite clients here in DC met you last time you were in DC. He had great things to say about you! Thanks for the info and next time your in town... hum... hit me up! :-) (If you want of course!)

The Kimpton hotels are gay-friendly. Try the Allegro (the old Bismarck) or the Burnham. Both are in the loop where the theaters are and some good restaruants and if you want to hang out in Lakeview "where the boys are" it is easy enough to take the CTA Red Line (subway) from the Lake station. The hotel people will direct you. I usually stay at the Allegro for meetings in the area and the price is usually better than some of the other hotels in the North Michigan area. (The Allegro, BTW, provides easy access for someone visiting you because the front desk area is on the first floor above street level and the elevators can be accessed just inside the revolving doors on street level. So an inconspicuous entry is assured.)

I'd have to second Deej's suggestion of the Hawthorne Terrace. Although it is well a Best Western and not the Four Seasons the location is a great one! There are three or four coffee shops within walking distance, tons of LOCAL resteraunts in the area, a little less then a mile from the red line and if you love music besides the clubs there is Boarderline record store just down the street, oh and there is a Jewles (sp) about 4 blocks from the hotel too which I think is open 24/7. I do have to warn you though when downtown during rush hour be very very very careful crossing the streets. The drivers don't care and from my experiences could care less if they hit you. So look both ways not just once but three times, NO JOKE. Oh and one more place you might want to check is http://www.cityinns.com They have a property right next to the red line in Boystown and across from my favorite club Berlin.

Hugs,

Greg

Lynden,

You're very welcome. Check your personal email regarding the information on my photographer.

BTW I've heard good things about you too ... I'll hit you up next time when I'm in DC (if you're not in Chicago) for a coffee, beer or a drink of your choice. ;)
