50's propaganda film producer/director Sid Davis died recently(cancer I believe)in Palm Desert, CA.

 

LET'S CELEBRATE FEAR and Sid's work by taking a look at one of his classics.

Near the end, when the kid breaks from his friends on the walk home and appears to be trapped by THE HO-MO-SEXUAL on the beach accompanied by the creepy music...that just kills me!

In case you're wondering, Sid also did a "Girls Beware", but that wasn't to warn against lesbian predators, rather to watch out for what boys try to get girls to do. All together, the IMDB credits him with 33 such "scare" films from 1950-1972, warning of such dangers as teen sex (You'll get syphilis!), underage drinking, being a school dropout (You'll end up in jail!), nice girls hanging out with "bad" girls (You'll become addicted to drugs and have to work as a prostitute!), showing off while riding your bicycle, carelessness (You'll get trapped in a cave!), not obeying your parents (You'll get thrown in a juvenile detention facility!), smoking pot (which he concludes was introduced by Communists to destroy America) or accepting rides from strangers (You'll never be seen again!). The IMDB also mentions that Mr. Davis previously had a regular gig as John Wayne's stand-in, in many of his big feature films of the 1940's.

Since "Boys Beware" was shown in schools nationwide (including my Catholic grammar school in NY, where I was shown it) since its release in 1961, it's easy to see where some baby boomers have gotten their twisted view of homosexuals. Also did wonders for the self-esteem of budding gay boys.
