Saw a wonderful new movie today, "A Guide To Recognizing Your Saints". Shot entirely in Astoria, Queens, written and directed by Dito Montiel based on his own life story and recently honored at the Sundance Film Festival. It has some of the most powerful performances by young actors I've seen in a long time. The principal role of Dito is shared by Shia LaBeouf in 1986 and Robert Downey Jr in 2005. The very talented and nice to look at young cast members also include Channing Tatum as Dito's friend Antonio and Martin Compston as Mike O'Shea, a Scotch kid who has recently moved into the neighborhood and befriends Dito. Older cast members include Chazz Palminteri and Dianne Wiest as Dito's parents. Great ensemble acting.
