If you want some clever & irreverent humor this weekend, check out "Little Miss Sunshine"! Alan Arkin and Greg Kinear star with an excellent cast, excellent all the way down to the props. Gays, drugs and even Bonnet-Ramsey are addressed.

I am curious what message the film sent to other viewers...

I was going to pass on this one - thought it would be a little too hokey/family/syrupy for my tastes.

There's are many others out that are on my to see list. I think this weekend will be Hollywoodland and perhaps The Black Dahlia.

"Clever" and "irreverent" are only two of the many adjectives that can be used to describe this delightful film. Perfect casting and an outstanding script combine to make this a treasure. The message and main theme seemed to me to be American obsession with winning. The loser father (Greg Kinnear) was hung up on his nine-point program which was supposed to turn losers into winners. The daughter was determined to get to the Little Miss Sunshine pageant in California. On the losing side, the uncle (Steve Carell) was flattened by losing his young lover to his academic competitor. The brother has taken a vow of silence, and Grandpa (Alan Arkin) snorted heroin and generously contributed to the dysfunctionality of the family. Only the mother (Toni Collette) was sane (and worn out) enough to try and hold everyone together. The movie was one of the best ensemble pieces I've seen in a long time.

LOS ANGELES, California (AP) -- Helen Mirren of "The Queen" and Forest Whitaker of "The Last King of Scotland" won Screen Actors Guild Awards on Sunday as best lead players, their latest prizes on the road to the Academy Awards.

The road-trip romp "Little Miss Sunshine" won the prize for best film ensemble, the guild's equivalent of a best-picture award.

I just watched this yesterday. I was so impressed with the acting. I thought Steve Carrell did a great job and Toni Collette was outstanding. I also am a big Greg Kinnear fan. In my personal opinion, Steve Carrell should have been nominated for a best supporting actor Oscar instead of Alan Arkin. Most of my friends disagree with me on this one though!
