So I was driving down the freeway, and just before my exit I noticed a new billboard with just the following word:

HUNGERECTOMY

Well, since the first two sections of the word are "Hung" and "Erect" (and the last is pronounced "to me"), my curiosity was naturally piqued. I'm guessing it must be an ad for Snickers, since the font and colors make it look like it's printed on a Snickers wrapper.

There ia a billboard here in suburban Chicago the reads,"My boogers itch".That is all it says,no pictures or anything.I have no idea what it means.

while speaking of billboards, I was in Birmingham, AL last week. Saw a billboard that said 'I pooted'. Really! It had a cartoon character on it and a CN logo. I assume that is for the Cartoon Network. Anyway, I busted out laughing.

Couple of favorite campaigns from recent memory:

1) The movie Godzilla. Horrible movie with a great advertising campaign. Everywhere you looked, billboards, bus and subway placards, etc., reminded you "SIZE MATTERS"

2) A Levi's campaign showing just a pair of jeans (Levi logo prominent) with the words "Tommy wore them". (Or Calvin, etc.) Really a great, subtle way to say "we were here first, bitch!" ;-)

Speaking of "size matters"---I cannot differentiate one country singer from another, but while surfing my cable selections, I came across a video of some country singer performing "Size Matters." I wish I knew who he was---kind of hunky. Made me re-think the whole country music scene.

I couldn't stand the suspense any longer, so I Googled it. Apparantly, it's a Snickers ad campaign. And from the number of Google hits, generating quite a bit of conversation.

I agree. I just saw a bus covered on both the sides and back with the huge one word "Hungerectomy" and thought: how gross! I am not sure if it's the correct latin translation of "hyserectomy" meaning to "take out" or "remove" a women's uterus/ovaries and the Snicker's ad people honestly thing this is a clever take off on that word, as in to "remove" or 'take out" one's hunger? If so, then it's gross to me and should be offensive to women who have had to have this kind of surgery and makes me feel kind of sick. I used to like a snickers bar every now and then, but I am not sure now and in no rush to go out and eat one now. I bet there will be a backlash and some minor controversy over this ad campaign, which might be part of why they did it and to get more publicity. I am not sure why a candy bar would want to push the envelope like that though.

There's at least one other common "ectomy" that folks are likely

familiar with: "appendectomy". And "tonsilectomy" is not that

uncommon either.

The first thing that popped into my head when I saw the subject Hunger-ectomy was gastric bypass surgery. But that's only because I know a couple of people who had it done.
