I am possibly heading to Miami in July and was wondering if it is intolerably hot being in the middle of the summer. Or do the ocean breezes keep the temps comfortable? Thanks for any feedback.

Not only that, but don't forget about hurricane season. Even if Miami is not hit by one, the travel disruptions are atrocious. There’s a reason the hotel deals are so good that time of year --- lousy weather.

But perhaps it's better to hear from the year round residents on this question. Anyone?

RR59..IF you don't like Heat, find another destination!

Key West my old Hometown, gets the only Breezes. And that isn't much to brag about and has just plain Out Priced itself, other than Cruise Tourism! :p :P :p

If you've ever been to Washington, DC in the summer when the temperature is 95 with 95% humidity and utterly still at 5AM, you know exactly what Miami is like in the summer time. The only difference is the hurricanes, which provide the occasional breeze.

It will rain every afternoon, like clockwork.

The good news is it isn't any worse than that. I've seen equally bad days in NYC (the difference being days instead of months). Since it's off season the prices are low. The water (pool or ocean) will feel great 24/7. And you will learn to truly VALUE air conditioning. ;-)

The point is that it isn't optimal, but it isn't the extraordinarily dismal destination that some will paint.

Summer in Florida is a no-no. Heat, humidity, hurricanes, tropical storms, airport weather delays are just some of the obstacles you might encounter.

The weather is extremely hot and humid, day and night. Normal daytime temperatures are usually around 95 degrees, although, it rarely reaches 100. Expect afternoon tropical thunderstorms on a regular basis where the rain pours down in buckets and the humidity afterward makes it impossible to do anything.

Most year-round residents run their errands and chores in the early morning and then hide out in their air-conditioned condos for the rest of the day. It's too hot for the pool or beach, and eating outdoors is intolerable.

If you have an alternative destination, I'd suggest you look into it.

But keep in mind that the heat does give you an excuse to wear next to nothing and there will be plenty of hot guys similarly attired (especially in South Beach)

The entire peninsula of Florida is very hot and humid for the entire summer. People like me who have lived here our entire lives, look forward to winter here. There is an old saying around here that says "Winter is the only reason we suffer through summertime (rainy season)"

Summer vacation in Miami, well it can be enjoyed if you are accustomed to this kind of weather or 23 years old! Even the surf temperture can be so hot that it too isn't refreshing, average surf temp in summer is usually about 85 and close to 90. Great fuel for hurricanes!!! But this is home, I have known nothing else and it is liveable and enjoyable just as long as you know how to "work around it".

I was once told that summer in Miami, after the tourists leave, is the time the Cubans flock to the beach to enjoy themselves, so if you can brave the weather you can catch a glimpse of some mighty attractive Latino men, and women, cathing the rays.

Have you considered Vancouver BC? the Pacific Northwest in the summer is temperate, lush and beautiful. It'll never be Miami, but it's a place you can certainly appreciate in the summer-

Not to mention, it has a first class gay nude beach!

Isn't it also true that the warm water temperature promotes sharks coming close to shore. I am so sharkaphobic that I don't think I'd get more than my ankles wet. Not too fond of you active gators either.

...Sharks will always be somewhere around. But have never heard that about warm water. Mating season is in the summer for sharks, but according to George Bush, terrorists is a greater danger than any shark.

The chances of a shark encounter ain't much, I have only seen a few in my life. When I was a kid, we would go gigging for flounder at night time in the canals around the space center, every now and then we would gig one just right and stir up some blood, damn that was a sight seeing juvenile sharks go crazy in <three feet of water.

One thing to avoid is a male dolphin, sometimes you can jump in the water from a boat and if you get a male there and it is mating season and he is feeling all frisky, watch out, damn them things can get rough. I learned the hard way at 12 years old!!!

I completely agree with Zipper. Wreck beach is a cultural event not to be missed. It is a nude beach but that is only a minor part of the attraction. There are many characters on the beach who look like they have been there since the 1960's. It is an environment of beauty and harmony. Music, food, etc. The last time I was there there was this very cute bond haired blue eyed naked boy selling "dubies." He would march up and down the beach chanting "dubies get your dubies." All of the vendors had a melodic song as they walked up and down the beach selling their stuff.

The only down side is that the water is cold. This does not stop anyone from going in however. Just think "scared as a turtle."

He can go to Miami at another time when the weather is stunningly beautiful. When I was in Miami for only a short hop from airport to Key West in the summer of 1999, the weather was unusually conducive for one to have a great time.

My friends and I experienced a great weather vacation in Puerto Rico at that time, too! All three of us were quite fortunate! :9

I disagree with the opinion that Miami is bad in July. Granted I am biased, as I lived there for 32 years. I found the summers to be the best times. Stunningly sunny, hot days with magnificent thunder storms in the afternoon. The lightning displays were incredible. Restaurants and shops were not as busy which made the sales people and owners much more friendly towards the customers they did get. Also, it's easier to find a good spot on the beach. Take plenty of sunscreen (SPF50 would be good) as the sun is quite strong.

Since I have not been back in many years, I can't tell you what it's like now, but I would love to be able to spend some time in Miami during the summer months once again and take in all the changes.
