I was already a fan but this is the best thing I have seen and heard in a very long time. It's just so sad that everything she sings about is true.

Pink's "Dear Mr. President":

"Watch Pink's new song"

Did video really kill the radio star? There use to be a time when people said LISTEN to a new song. In my opinion, if a song can't stand on it's own merits without a video then it isn't a good song. Our minds should be allowed to set the scenery.

In regards to her other song "Stupid Girls" her lyrics in the song make excellent points. Hopefully, little girls aspiring to be bubblegum sluts because of what they see in the media will hear the song's true message and change their minds (and underware).

PINK LYRICS

Stupid Girls

Stupid girl, stupid girls, stupid girls

Maybe if I act like that, that guy will call me back

Porno Paparazzi girl, I don't wanna be a stupid girl

Go to Fred Segal, you'll find them there

Laughing loud so all the little people stare

Looking for a daddy to pay for the champagne

(Drop a name)

What happened to the dreams of a girl president

She's dancing in the video next to 50 Cent

They travel in packs of two or three

With their itsy bitsy doggies and their teeny-weeny tees

Where, oh where, have the smart people gone?

Oh where, oh where could they be?

Maybe if I act like that, that guy will call me back

Porno Paparazzi girl, I don't wanna be a stupid girl

Baby if I act like that, flipping my blond hair back

Push up my bra like that, I don't wanna be a stupid girl

(Break it down now)

Disease's growing, it's epidemic

I'm scared that there ain't a cure

The world believes it and I'm going crazy

I cannot take any more

I'm so glad that I'll never fit in

That will never be me

Outcasts and girls with ambition

That's what I wanna see

Disasters all around

World despaired

Their only concern

Will they **** up my hair

Maybe if I act like that, that guy will call me back

Porno Paparazzi girl, I don't wanna be a stupid girl

Baby if I act like that, flipping my blond hair back

Push up my bra like that, I don't wanna be a stupid girl

[interlude]

Oh my god you guys, I totally had more than 300 calories

That was so not sexy, no

Good one, can I borrow that?

[Vomits]

I WILL BE SKINNY

(Do ya thing, do ya thing, do ya thing)

(I like this, like this, like this)

Pretty will you **** me girl, silly as a lucky girl

Pull my head and suck it girl, stupid girl!

Pretty would you **** me girl, silly as a lucky girl

Pull my head and suck it girl, stupid girl!

Baby if I act like that, flipping my blond hair back

Push up my bra like that, stupid girl!

Maybe if I act like that, that guy will call me back

Porno Paparazzi girl, I don't wanna be a stupid girl

Baby if I act like that, flipping my blond hair back

Push up my bra like that, I don't wanna be a stupid girl

Well, this is a video and you watch videos. If it were a link to an mp3, I would have said "listen to" instead of "watch."

Did you even watch the video? It's Pink sitting on a chair singing the song live on stage. There are no actors and no scenery. Where did anyone say the song wasn't good without the video? Besides, it's fun to see a dynamic performer do their thing on stage...that's why people go to concerts. You don't see people in the audience at concerts wearing blindfolds so the songs can "stand on their own merits." :p

Per your very own words in your very own posting:

"I was already a fan but this is the best thing I have seen and heard in a very long time. It's just so sad that everything she sings about is true."

In support of VDN, just where does "heard" disappear from your argument, again???

MTV and videos, in general, have imo, KILLED real music!

IMO, Madonna, Brittany, Christina, InSynch, or any other "musical artist" who NEEDS a video and a lip-synching stage show, are not MUSICAL artists, and are just a show, and even though there is NOTHING wrong with being that!, what is WRONG with being that is that they market themselves as musical artists!!!!!!!!

:-(

Isn't that what VDN was saying, or did I ONCE again miss the point???

Pink, right along with all the above mentioned artists and their ilk, will never STAND the test of time, imo!!

Mozart, Beethoven, Wagner, and so many more are still popular with LISTENERS centuries after their deaths, as are MUSICAL artists such as Billie Holiday, Duke Ellington, Ella Fitzgerald, Bessie Smith, Louie Armstrong, Hank Wlliams, Patsy Cline, etc., etc., etc., etc., etc., and WHY??? BECAUSE music is an art form that appeals to the EAR and not the EYE! As such, "musical artists", like Madonna who rely on the visual, will, imo, NEVER stand the test of time!

Well, if either of you had clicked the link and watched Pink perform her moving song (without dancers or lasers or explosions or nudity), you'd see that your anger is misdirected. This thread wasn't about Britney or MTV or videos. It was about an artist making a statement and social commentary, which has been sorely lacking in popular music for some time. If you'd watched the video, you might actually have some hope that true "performing," in the way that you pine for, could be making a comeback. But it's more fun to wallow in anger and vitriole so carry on. :+
