Some of us are old enough to remember the original TV show "I've Got a Secret". Basically, someone appears on the show and a group of 4 panelists try to guess their secret.

Well, the show is being remade and will appear on the Game Show Network (GSN). However, on the new version, all 4 panelists are gay or lesbian! According to OutSports:

The unspoken secret of the new game show "I've Got a Secret" is the cast, which includes former Major League Baseball player Billy Bean.

The show, which debuts April 17 at 11:30 p.m. Eastern on the Game Show Network (check your local cable or satellite listings) is an update on the TV classic that first aired in 1952. The premise is simple: A guest has a secret that the four panelists need to guess; the host and the audience are clued in to the secret.

The twist here is that all four panelists are gay or lesbian: Bean, who played pro baseball from 1987-95; Frank DeCaro (host of a Sirius radio show); comedienne Suzanne Westenhoefer and dancer and actor Jermaine Taylor. The host is Bill Dwyer, who is not gay.

Clockwise from left: Jermaine Taylor, Bill Dwyer, Frank DeCaro, Suzanne Westenhoefer and Billy Bean

Could be an interesting show.

I noticed this same photo and an article about the show in TV Guide. And they didn't mention anything about the sexual orientation of the panelists. I recognized several of the names, so I kind of figured it out. Too hot for TV Guide?

By the way-- who is Jermaine Taylor? He's very cute!

What's the upside to a game show where the panel is all gay? Like it makes a differance?

You're right, their sexual orientation has nothing to do with the "rules" or content of the show. But, it is a very subtle attempt to show gay people in the mainstream of society and not as the stereotypes perceived by others.

Here's a couple more good points made in the article I originally referenced:

The producers are not publicizing the orientation of the panel, but they are not hiding it either since there is no need. As Bean said, each panelist is being who they are and not playing a role. The show is unscripted and was filmed live before a studio audience...

...Bean hopes that having four gay people just being themselves will make some difference in the cultural landscape.

"If we can be ourselves on TV five nights a week and not be programmed by writers … we are going to be doing a service. There's some good that can come out of the experience."

I'm personally glad that there are finally some visible gays on TV who aren't being scripted to be queeny, limp-wristed, or some other stereo-typical expectation.

According to the Miami Herald:

In this incarnation, the host is stand-up comic Bil Dwyer (The 70s House). The other panelists: Frank DeCaro, Sirius radio personality; comedienne Suzanne Westenhoefer; and Jermaine Taylor, actor and dancer. Taylor wrote and starred in a one-man Off-Broadway show, A Peace of the Game, in which he played a game show host and three contestants.

Even if the show is a flop it would be worth watching just to see him. I've read he actually cries in one episode when the singer of "It's Raining Men" appears.

Secret and Golden Girls

Howdy,

I was flipping through the older threads and wanted to kick in on this...

Frank Decaro talks about the I've Got A Secret show pretty much anytime he is on his other daily Sirius show.

He always reminds listeners that beverages were flowing during afternoon wardrobe session and through the taping around 5 or 5:30pm so they are loaded. On-air beverages were all booze.

Frank had originally auditioned for Rosie's new sketch show on Logo but didn't make the final cut.

His boyfriend is writing the definitive guide to the Golden Girls. He has done almost 100 interviews (with more to go) in compiling something comprehensive and very behind the scenes.

Gotta buy it!

RE: Secret and Golden Girls

Interesting info! The comments about the free-flowing booze explains why they appear so giddy.

This remake is a little different from the original show but it is entertaining. ;-)

RE: Billy Bean Eye Candy

Wow!

I didn't realize all THAT was under Billy Bean's clothes. He did an hour on Frank's show about a week before the GSN premiere. What a nice guy! He went in-depth about coming out, baseball and took lots of calls from listeners.

Frank says all the time on Sirius, "Oh, Suzanne & I talked Billy into doing it....he didn't care!" So, I think he really got into playing along with the guests and the stunts on I've Got A Secret.

I've only managed to see two shows. I think they said 42 total were taped.

Frank DeCaro Show

Afternoon...

Interesting Frank DeCaro radio show today...

It seems that the Queen of Mean Lisa Lampanelli really liked Frank's college-age intern during her interview last week.

The intern talked about fucking LL on Saturday on Sirius today. She's great with rope, he said.

Good for you kid!
