I don't think this is public shaming; this, IMHO, is consumer protection. We (members and participants in this Forum) are consumers in a completely unregulated profession. Absent contacting law enforcement (a path that raises myriad problems), writing here and warning others about the scammer is the only recourse we have. I don't think this is qualitatively different from posting Yelp review about a mechanic who overcharges, lies about the required repairs, etc. a restaurant whose customers periodically get food poisoning or a cab driver that always overcharges.

Here are some potential criteria to help define a scammer: (1) uses photos of another person (2) uses severely outdated photos; (3) materially misrepresents their age (4) requests and receives a deposit but then never shows. I also think RM who threaten to physically assault or blackmail a client or who actually do follow through on any such threats should be identified.

That was my reaction. But it can, nonetheless, still be worthwhile to contact the RM and tell him about your specific interests and proposed donation and see what happens. Sometimes it does work out.

It's possible the disagreement and assault were at the end of the 2-hour appointment. Possibly the client didn't feel he should pay entire fee because RM failed to perform, or RM tried to change his fee upwards, and an argument ensure.
