EastCoastGuy reacted to Danny-Darko in Vintage Photos of Men In Love
The mystery photos of a 1957 gay wedding:
TIL that photographs developed from a reel left at a pharmacy in Philadelphia in 1957, seem to depict a 1957 gay wedding. The ceremony took place in a flat with the blinds drawn. The grooms are shown kissing, cutting their wedding cake and opening presents. The subjects remain unidentified.
The people who took these photos never got to see them because the pharmacy that developed them refused to return them. The owner thought that images of men kissing, dancing with each other, having a marriage ceremony were indecent and obscene.

I just came across these with this information so I'm passing it on: Photo booth, c.1953 (Hastings Park, Edmonton, Canada): These pictures were once owned by the young man on the right-hand side of the image, Joseph John Bertrund Belanger. Belanger, for most of his life, was a devoted collector of LGBT history. Born in Edmonton, Canada, in 1925, he served in the Royal Canadian Air Force and was a member of the Mattachine Society — an early instance of what today would be called an LGBT organization — in the early 1950s. It is thanks to his passion and foresight that the image survives today. -
