Recently, a gay Anglo-Mexican living in Qatar (an airline pilot I think) was entrapped by police posing as a Grindr hookup, and imprisoned awaiting trial. To make things worse, he was HIV positive, and it took the intervention of both the British and the Mexican governments to grant him access to his medication and finally to get him released and deported. Yes, being overtly gay in the Middle East can be a dangerous proposition.
