I dont think he has to know a lot of masseurs to know that to be true. That is because historically there has been a hierarchy based on skin color. Light/white skin is seen as a status symbol for the rich because it meant you did not do physical labor compared to the darker lower cast that were always in the sun doing physical labor. This is why South East Asians are looked down on by usually Northeast Asians. This is also why Northeast Asians use a lot of creams that block the sun and also whiten/lighten their skin. Though a very small set of Japanese people have the ganguro fashion style so they purposefully darken their skin until they look brown skinned,
