i'm not sure shaggydog is really dead. the head that smalljon umber brought ramsay looked too small to be a dire wolf. i actually don't even think house umber will really turn out to be allied with the boltons. i suspect it's a plot. smalljon refused to bend the knee, which is a huge deal. the umbers are fiercely loyal to the starks, as are all the other houses in the north, with one exception. the only house with a real reason to side with ramsay are the karstarks, and they have (and lord karstark is into young boys, apparently). rickon's dire wolf may be alive and well at the last hearth. lord umber is just trying to create an illusion. i hope!!

i agree. no big surprises, not even melisandre's scene at the end. i didn't see it coming but i wasn't surprised. makes total sense to me that she's been around forever but has a way to disguise herself. maybe the magical necklace? when she takes it off, her real appearance becomes visible. that idea has been used for witches and sorceresses in old fairy tales many times. i just don't know what that last scene means. for now, i'm interpreting it that, for so long she thought stannis was azor ahai reborn. she finally realizes that she was wrong, and that jon is azor ahai, and it's too late. jon is dead! at least for the moment. perhaps she's completely devastated? even questioning the faith that her whole life is about? so far hbo has not used an important line for melisandre. something to the effect of....i ask the lord of light to show me azor ahai in the flames (or i search for him in the flames), and all i see is snow. unlike me, the books use proper capitalization. if my memory is correct, in that line, the word "snow" does not have a capital "s". unclear as to whether she means jon or just actual snow. if, in fact, jon does come back to life, he does not necessarily need melisandre for that. if he's azor ahai, anything is possible. if he's not azor, but he is half targaryen, and if they burn his body, and he is "of the dragon", then he will be reborn in the flames. the scene that got the biggest reaction from me....poor tristane martell is dead!!! the actor who played him (toby sebastian) is sooo cute. i wanted to see more of him for sure!

You're basically right. Technically Catelyn dies/does not survive. Beric and Thoros find her dead body in the river. Beric brings her back to life as Lady Stoneheart. Stoneheart is nothing like Catelyn. She exists only for revenge and killing Freys and even has Brienne hanged when she sees that Brienne has Jamie's sword, which indicates loyalty to Jamie.

Do you mean Thoros? And The Hound? Or Jojen? Or Mance? He's not really dead in the books. Oh....Catelyn/Stoneheart? Must be her. I couldn't believe HBO left that part out, at least so far.

Asha/Yara will return this season. Euron and Victarion only care about getting with Dany and her dragons. Euron claims to have found the magic horn that controls dragons and turns them away from their master. In the book, Pyatt Pree makes another appearance in the mix with the Greyjoy Bros.

HBO will probably make us wait quite a bit still to learn jon's fate. Kit Harrington can be credited in several episodes to come just for lying there as a corpse.

I think Melissndre has figured out that Jon is/will become Azor Ahai (the prince that was promised) reborn. This would make sense if he is, in fact, Ned's bastard by Ashara Dayne. As a Dayne, Jon would be able to wield their legendary sword Dawn (Lightbringer). But then who is Rhaegar and Lyanna's child? Starting to look like that could be Daenerys. I'm not 100% convinced of R + L = D, but it's possible. If so, and if Jon is the unplanned result of a booty call between Ned (or maybe even Ned's older brother) and Ashara at the Tourney at Harrenhal, then Dany is the only character who is both ice and fire. I, personally, am not smart enough to have pieced together all the many clues spread out over several books and come up with this alternate theory about Rhaegar and Lyanna's offspring. It is, admittedly, farfetched and therefore controversial but it seems to be gaining some credibility among hard-core Thrones nerds. In my opinion, it may explain more than the original idea that has been widely accepted for a long time already, especially considering that lemon tree (book readers, I'm talking to you). Looks like we will finally get some back story this season. I hate to be a spoil-monger, but there is a third possible half Targ as well. May already have been mentioned here. I don't remember.

i thought that there is still speculation that prince aegon targaryen may be an imposter. as for jon snow...in book 2, when daenerys has a vision of of rhaegar while she is in the house of the undying, rhaegar mentions aegon and says, "he is the prince that was promised, and his is the song of ice and fire." at first master aemon also shares the same belief. later aemon has an epiphany that, for several reasons, the prince that was promised is, in fact, a princess--daenerys. melisandre claims that stannis is the prophesied leader, but she's wrong a lot. finally getting back to jon snow, it's possible that he too was born "amidst smoke and salt", as prophesied. "under a bleeding star"? maybe not, but jon is the only character who is both ice (stark) and fire (targaryen). the prince that was promised and "the dragon must have 3 heads" are the two most significant of the many prophecies in the books, most of which have been overlooked by hbo. lots of theories as to the meaning of the dragon having 3 heads....jon may be one of the symbolic "heads" instead, not the prince.

i'm very curious to see hat hbo does next. they really abandoned george r. r. martin's source material last season. does anyone know if they're even using his as yet unpublished "winds of winter"? by the way, that handsome man to the left is obviously not me. it's (sadly gone) robb stark, king of the north. so, yeah, i'm a fan.
