devil In the white city is one of my favorites. I detest Leonardo DiCrappyo though so was disappointed to hear he was going to be in it. Erik Larson's other books are good too. I love his mix of fiction and fact. Caleb Carr is another good author he has a book called the Alieniest that is a great read.

I do the hotel bus to the Marriott. it's far enough away from lax that you have a bigger pool of drivers and close enough that it doesn't take a long time to get there. a quick buck tip to the driver and it is easy peasy. I try to avoid the rental car lots because they are not all in great neighborhoods and some drivers will ignore.
