  1. Published by BANG Showbiz English Lily Allen believes she deserves “none” of her success. The 37-year-old singer is the daughter of actor Keith Allen and film producer Alison Owen and took to Twitter on Tuesday (20.12.22) in the wake of New York magazine’s “Year of the Nepo Baby” cover story to rant about how “nepo babies” who make it in the professional world are more of a “worry” than those who go on to a career in the entertainment industry because of family connections. She tweeted: “The nepo babies y’all should be worrying about are the ones working for legal firms, the ones working for banks, and the ones working in politics, If we’re talking about real world consequences and robbing people of opportunity. BUT that’s none of my business. And before you come at me for being a nepo baby myself, I will be the first to tell you that I literally deserve nothing! “ The ‘Smile’ hitmaker – who is also the sister of ‘Game of Thrones’ star Alfie Allen – went on to add that she is not “rooting” for an industry made up of people who grew up in privilege but urged her five million followers to acknowledge that “nepo babies have feelings” before adding that it is “important” to disclose her upbringing after receiving backlash. She wrote: “I promise you I’m not rooting for an industry full of people that had childhoods that looked like mine.I just really think that we can’t get to a real solution without identifying the real problem, as fun as it is to laugh at the kids of famous people. Nepo babies have feelings. “I do feel that nepo babies are being somewhat scapegoated here though, there is a wider, societal conversation to be had about wealth inequality, about lack of programs and funding, and I guess that was the point I was trying to make, maybe badly. Look, I seem to have riled people up with my comments about nepo babies. I am nearly 40 years of age and am more than happy, in fact I think it’s important to disclose what a privileged upbringing I’ve had and how that has created so many opportunities for me.” View the full article

  4. Published by Reuters By Brendan Pierson (Reuters) – The upstate New York city of Buffalo on Tuesday filed a lawsuit in state court accusing major gun manufacturers of fueling violence through irresponsible marketing and sales practices. Defendants in the lawsuit include Smith & Wesson Brands Inc, Beretta USA Corp, Bushmaster Firearms Industries Inc, Colt’s Manufacturing Co LLC and Glock Inc. The city is seeking an unspecified money award to combat gun violence. Bushmaster said in a statement that it had not fully reviewed the complaint but that “at first blush” it appeared “false.” The other companies did not immediately respond to requests for comment. The case appeared to be the first time a city has sued major gun companies under a 2021 New York law that allows lawsuits against gun makers and sellers for creating a “public nuisance” through their business practices. Buffalo claims that the gun companies created such a nuisance by marketing practices that emphasize the high capacity and ease of concealing their products, appealing to people with criminal intent; deliberately supplying more guns than needed in the legitimate market; and failing to take steps to stop illegal sales. “Defendants’ actions have created, maintained, or contributed to a condition in Buffalo that impacts the health and well being of us all,” the lawsuit said. Buffalo was the site of a racially motivated mass shooting in May that killed 10 Black people at a grocery store. The shooter used a Bushmaster rifle. New York City is currently pursuing a lawsuit against distributors under the state public nuisance law seeking to halt sales of so-called ghost guns, kits of components that allow buyers to construct finished guns without serial numbers of background checks. 5. Published by Reuters (Reuters) -Billionaire Elon Musk said on Tuesday he will step down as chief executive of Twitter Inc once he finds a replacement, but will still run some key divisions of the social media platform. “I will resign as CEO as soon as I find someone foolish enough to take the job! After that, I will just run the software & servers teams,” Musk wrote on Twitter. Musk’s $44 billion takeover of Twitter in October has been marked by chaos and controversy, with some investors questioning if he is too distracted to also properly run his electric vehicle automaker Tesla Inc , in which he is personally involved in production and engineering. This is the first time Musk has mentioned stepping down as chief of the social media platform, after Twitter users voted for him to resign in a poll, which the billionaire launched on Sunday evening. In the poll, 57.5% of around 17.5 million people voted “yes.” Musk had said on Sunday he would abide by the results. He has not provided a time frame for when he will step down and no successor has been named. The poll results capped a whirlwind week that included changes to Twitter’s privacy policy and the suspension – and reinstatement – of journalists’ accounts that drew condemnation from news organizations, advocacy groups and officials across Europe. Wall Street calls for Musk to step down had been growing for weeks and recently even Tesla bulls have questioned his focus on the social media platform and how it might distract him from running the EV maker. Musk has himself said he had too much on his plate, and that he would look for a Twitter CEO. He said on Sunday, though, that there was no successor and that “no one wants the job who can actually keep Twitter alive.” (Reporting by Ann Maria Shibu and Juby Babu in Bengaluru; Editing by Sandra Maler, Anne Marie Roantree and) View the full article
  6. Published by OK Magazine Mega Though King Charles III reportedly refused to pay for security for his son and daughter-in-law, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle, it seems the newly-minted monarch is supposedly fine with paying for private protection for his brother, disgraced royal Prince Andrew. Andrew, who was stripped of his royal patronages and military titles by his mother, Queen Elizabeth II, earlier this year due to his association with convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein, will no longer be protected by London’s Metropolitan Police. Mega As a result, it seems like the King will fund private security for his sibling, a service that totals roughly $3 million per year. KING CHARLES III REFUSED TO GIVE PRINCE HARRY HIS BLESSING TO MARRY MEGHAN MARKLE, BELIEVED SHE WASN’T ‘WORTHY OF THEIR FAMILY’: SOURCE Despite refusing to pay for Harry and Meghan’s security while footing the bill for his brother’s, it seems Charles is still open to having his son and daughter-in-law in his life, even allegedly inviting the pair to his coronation next May. Mega “Harry is his son and His Majesty will always love him,” an insider close with the monarch spilled earlier this week, adding that he reportedly already extended an invitation to Harry and Meghan for the event next spring. KING CHARLES III WILL INVITE PRINCE HARRY & MEGHAN MARKLE TO MAY CORONATION DESPITE TENSION: ‘THE DOOR WILL ALWAYS BE LEFT AJAR,’ SAYS SOURCE “While things are difficult at the moment, the door will always be left ajar,” the source elaborated of their famously tense relationship. Despite Charles’ purported willingness, it seems Harry’s older brother, Prince William, may have a different perspective on the matter, according to royal expert Angela Levin. “It’s an important occasion and it can’t just be all about them [Harry and Meghan] — and if they do come it will be all about them. I think William will say, ‘Absolutely not you can not come,'” she explained, “He is the most annoyed about all of this and today once again they dragged him through the mud.” The Telegraph previously reported on the purported payment for Andrew’s security. In 2007, Madonna joined other celebrity Kabbalah worshippers for a conference on Jewish mysticism in Tel Aviv, Israel, where they additionally celebrated Rosh Hashanah, the Jewish New Year, as OK! reported. At the time, she raised a toast with former Israeli President Shimon Peres and declared herself an “ambassador for Judaism.” In 2015, Madonna conducted an interview with The Independent and declared she does not identify as Jewish, or any specific religion, for that matter. “No, I don’t affiliate myself with any specific religious group,” she explained at the time. “I connect to different ritualistic aspects of different belief systems, and I see the connecting thread between all religious beliefs.” MADONNA BARELY COVERS NIPPLES IN LATEST STRIPPED DOWN SNAP: ‘EXPRESS YOURSELF DON’T REPRESS YOURSELF’ Madonna went on to confirm she had previously studied Kabbalah, occasionally observed Shabbat and even had a bar mitzvah for her son David, but has not specifically converted to Judaism. @madonna/Instagram “This appears like I’m Jewish, but these rituals are connected to what I describe as the Tree of Life consciousness and have more to do with the idea of being an Israelite, not Jewish,” she continued to explain to the Irish media outlet. “The tribes of Israel existed before the religion of Judaism existed, so you have to do your history,” Madonna quipped. “So, am I Jewish? I mean, some people would say, well, you do a lot of things that Jews do, but I would say I do a lot of things that people did before Judaism existed. And I believe what I practice has to do with something deeper than religion, that it embodies all religions, including Judaism. And Christianity. And Islam.” View the full article

  16. Published by Chicago Tribune I’m of two minds about “The Whale.” I don’t like it; that’s one mind. Yet I love what it has done for its star, Brendan Fraser, a highly likely Oscar nominee come early 2023 and — as he has been since the early 1990s — a wonderful actor. He’s best known, still, I suppose, for saving the “Mummy” franchise (alongside Rachel Weisz) from lousiness. That was a long time ago. Fraser, a big, graceful screen presence, did excellent work before the “Mummy” movies and after. Eventually, he fell out of favor and, forcibly, laid low for a lot of reasons. 17. Published by Reuters By Steve Holland WASHINGTON (Reuters) -President Joe Biden on Monday used a Hanukkah celebration to call on Americans to get off the sidelines and join the fight against rising anti-Semitism in the United States. “Today, we must all say clearly and forcefully that anti-Semitism and all forms of hate and violence in this country have no safe harbor in America. Period,” Biden said. He also said that “silence is complicity.” Biden delivered the remarks during a Hanukkah reception that included adding the first-ever official White House menorah. It is the first Jewish artifact to be added to the White House archives. “The White House has never had its own menorah, until now. It is now a cherished piece of this home, your home, tonight,” first lady Jill Biden told the crowd gathered at the White House. The Democratic president’s move comes as reports of anti-Semitism have increased nationwide. Last week, Biden launched a new effort to develop a national strategy to counter anti-Semitism. The issue has drawn headlines in recent weeks after Republican former President Donald Trump hosted white supremacist Nick Fuentes and the musician formerly known as Kanye West at his private club in Florida. Last year saw the largest number of anti-Semitic incidents, including murder, physical assaults, harassment and vandalism, since the Anti-Defamation League began collecting records 40 years ago, the racism watchdog said in its most recent annual audit. According to FBI data released earlier this month, more than 7,200 hate crimes were reported in 2021 in the United States. Over 60% of the reported incidents were based on race, ancestry or ethnicity, while about one in six were classified as sexual orientation-bias crimes and one in seven as religion-bias crimes. 22. I promised a few folks that I would post about my recent trip to Paris. So this is somewhat of a brain dump to capture some of the sights/sounds/experiences. For this trip, I was with two other friends and had another four friends that also scheduled their vacation there at the same time. So at times, we had as many as seven crazy Americans running around. In the Air The flight to Paris was a Christmas gift from my friends. As a result, I did not have much say in the selection or booking of the flight. We took Delta from MSP to CDG leaving Friday afternoon and arriving Saturday morning. I was able to hang out in the Delta SkyLounge at MSP while we waited for our flight. Once in the air, we entertained ourself in Economy with the infotainment system. We were served a chicken dish for dinner (they were out of the pasta dish). It was not that great... only ended up eating a few bites. Instead we ended up grazing from food we brought from the SkyLounge. Where We Stayed For the first half of the trip, we stayed at the Renaissance Paris Nobel Eiffel Tower in a Junior Suite. It was a fantastic hotel with great staff. Everyone was very friendly and helpful. This location made it pretty easy to get around to the destinations on the western part of the city. We walked to the Eiffel Tower and Arc De Triumph, etc. The little street cafes were fantastic and a great way to start the morning with a croissant and fresh squeezed orange juice while people watching. For the back half of the trip, we moved further east to the Moxy Paris Bastille. Just like it's US counterpart, you don't book at the Moxy for the room or for the service. Instead you have a basic room and if you're at the hotel, you're hanging out in the well furnished lobby area which felt like a giant living room. While we were there, we watched the France vs England game on the giant TV. It was a loud and interesting experience to say the least. The bartender literally made the experience there. Great service and he happened to be a true mixologist. So we just had him serve us liquor... dealer's choice. We did not have a single drink that disappointed. Several drinks also never made it onto the tab as the bill was much smaller than I expected it to be. (While tipping is not the norm, I did tip well as the service was absolutely top notch.) Eiffel Tower Friends booked this, and apparently they booked it late. As a result, the tickets for the elevator were sold out. We ended up walking up the first 30 flights of stairs to the first landing before we decided that was enough. We were all huffing and puffing after getting about 15 flights up. It was pure determination that let us make it to the landing. The was a fantastic view though! IMG_0072.MOV Arc De Triomphe Visiting here was the day after climbing the stairs at the Eiffel Tower. Realizing there were EVEN MORE stairs to climb here made me realize I was going to be in pretty good shape once I left Paris. This was such an amazing set of views and the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier really made me realize how much we all feel pain and loss no matter where in the world we happen to be. Notre Dame Cathedral The venue is still not opened yet following the fire there a few years ago. As a result, we could only catch a view of the exterior. Its expected to reopen in 2024, and I definitely would love to go back and visit it once it's restored. I have more pictures to post... just need to finish editing and cleaning them up. I'll share some more later when I have a few minutes.
