  3. Yes. Elizabeth Taylor was married to Eddie Fisher and survived a very serious pneumonia scare.
  4. . I have been watching the Oscars since the late 1950s. They have always been unfocused. At least Bob Hope and Johnny Carson hosted for so long, they almost became allies with the folks watching at home. And there were dramatic surprises: Liz Taylor's Best Actress Oscar for Butterfield 8, for example.
  5. I agree. But, Eddie Fisher recorded an album of Oscar winner songs from the beginning to the late 1950s. With a few exceptions, the songs were wonderful (White Christmas, Somewhere Over The Rainbow). And even Eddie Fisher stopped being wonderful in a few years.
  6. The problem is with Putin and the oligarchs, not necessarily with the people who live in Russia. I often disagree with Corporate Shill -- most of the time actually. But, "Well aren't we a sensitive little thing" is unfair. I agree with Shill on Dianne Feinstein not running for re-election and several other issues.
  7. I know. I listened to Pearl Jam in the 1990s as well. Just was not sure Eddie Vedder was universally known then.
  8. Eddie Vedder of Pearl Jam is one the best known rock performers for well over a decade. I doubt Ms. Garner said "Eddie Butter."
  9. Jack Benny continued working until the end of his life. He did classical music concerts with local orchestras. I saw him at Wolf Trap in Virginia a few months before Mr.. Benny passed. away. There were not many hotels then near Wolf Trap. He stayed at the local hotel. I remember seeing Jack talk to his manager in the hotel lobby. I was there to see Ella Fitzgerald; Jack Benny was a nice bonus.
  10. The Metropolitan Opera’s Split Personality The company lurches from a tacky “Semiramide” to a glorious “Parsifal.” By Alex Ross https://www.newyorker.com/magazine/2018/03/12/the-metropolitan-operas-split-personality I saw this staging of "Parsifal" with Jonas Kaufmann five years ago.. The blood in the water Act 2 was annoying. But, it was otherwise a glorious experience. I would much prefer seeing "Electra" than "Semiramide." However, I have already seen "Electra" twice in "Europe."
  11. I was surprised when Liza Minnelli won Best Actress for "Cabaret." Even though I was pretty young I did not expect Grace Kelly to win Best Actress for Country Girl on the 1950s. Moonlight was a surprise last year.

  17. I read Ron Chernow's book "Hamilton" before seeing the musical. Very glad I did & and that I live in Philadelphia so could visit many of the sites mentioned in the book. "Hamilton" the musical was difficult for me, not the music, just the words. Even after listening to the album, I have mixed feeling about seeing the musical again.
  18. My point: There are 4 or 5 Van Gogh paintings owned by the Barnes Foundation. I never considered seeing the film. Also, for years the Bernes was in the Philadelphia suburbs, now it is in Center City Philadelphia. Some people may not be aware of the change of locations -- to a museum with much more space and light.
