He's in Altadena. He quoted me $150 for 90 min ($125 for outcall +$25 travel fee since I'm not in his neighborhood). But he also said "plus any tip you feel may be appropriate" and that kinda put me off because I prefer an independent MT to just set his rates based on what they would like to receive. I hadn't booked yet but might one day.

Thanks for saying this @Tactile Daddy. I always take into account the time and effort that is put into a massage, with or without any extras. As a matter of fact I never go expecting extras, I just go with the expectation of having a solid massage and whatever happens beyond that happens. Instead of trying to figure out an amount to tip, I always come prepared to give $100/60 min, $150/90 min, and $200/120 min no matter what. I think this is reasonable for the service they're delivering, and it's still less than what alot of independent MT's ask for on MassuerFinder or RentMassuer. I've never had a complaint or received any attitude about my tip, if anything they express alot of gratitude and I tend to get excellent services whenever I see them again.

I had similar experiences with Josh and Peter but there was no talk of tipping or upcharging with either of them. I've seen Josh about 4x, he gives a good massage and I agree that he's inexperienced with extras but I've enjoyed them with him each time. He was pretty shy when I first met him but he's pretty comfortable with me now and really gets into the extras. I saw Peter once and his massage was fine but unremarkable and definitely not sensual. In the end he gave an unenthusiastic HE with some MT. He's a good fit for anyone who just wants a non-sensual massage with release.
