I wouldn't pay it either but some might. If they get it good for them. If they don't they either drop the price or drop out of the business.
If you don't want to pay it move on to the guys who charge what you want to pay.

I envy New York as they always have hot guys plus they get really hot travellers. On the down side I'd be broke.
