What To Do in Fort Lauderdale

Fort Lauderdale is a large city with a large gay community. There are accommodations and entertainment for all ages of gay men from their 20s to their 80s. You should check out the on-line version of hotspotsmagazine.com and gayftlauderdale.com, which will give you many suggestions.

Fort Lauderdale has warm, beautiful weather all year long (except for a hurricane or two); there is never fog, nor smog, nor chilly temps. You can swim in great comfort in the ocean (which is actually the Gulf Stream) on Christmas or New Year's or any other day. There are four stripper bars operating every day of the year with free admission or low cover charge. There are large numbers of gay restaurants, bars, dance venues, stores, porn shops, and accommodations. There are all the big hotel chains (Hilton, Marriott, Hyatt, Radisson, Sheraton, etc.), but there are also three dozen very attractive gay guest houses, all beautifully landscaped and offering complete privacy. If you are looking for a special place to stay, I would recommend one of the gay guest houses. If this is a special occasion, get one of the special suites; they are very nice. (Some of the guest houses lost some of their trees; I recently visited the Worthington, Flamingo, and Grand, and they seemed to be fine.) For restaurants, try one of the very nice gay restaurants in town - the Hi-Life, or Sage, or Herban Kitchen, or Seasons 52 (or lots of others also). Special gay restaurants, with good but not exceptional menues, would be Chardees and Tropics and Georgie's Alibi.

Most of the gay venues and things you will be interested in are in the NE section of the city. The gay village is called Wilton Manors. You will feel very comfortable as a gay couple in Fort Lauderdale. The airport is 10 minutes from downtown straight up Federal Highway #1. Take the water taxi for a beautiful view of the "Venice of the New World" and have dinner at stop #1 at Shooters or Opa Greek Taverna or Charley's Crab House (excellent seafood). Or at the other end of the ride in downtown at Riverwalk, Stop #18 or #19, eat along the riverfront or walk one block over to Second Street, which is the hottest strip in town right now, lined with restaurants and bars (not specifically gay, but certainly gay friendly).
