PBS Preview: Ken Burns & Vietnam

I watched about 30 minutes of what was essentially a commercial for the PBS series. Way too much self- satisfaction for "finally getting the war right." I turned it off when Burns praised the beautiful rural South Vietnam country- side. Indeed, it is beautiful now.

 

But, Americans, South Koreans and Australians were far more concerned with staying alive during the undeclared war. At night, some of those villages were home to the Viet Cong -- during the day, people who supported the Viet Cong and/or the North Vietnamese.
