Incidentally, I still use some of Mentzer's training methods as the basis for my exercise routine... not that it has done any good that is... I guess one really does need a bit if the juice!

I didn't come out until 1992, but I'll never forget the day, a few years before that, when I was perusing magazines in the supermarket, and saw an issue of Ironman with Bob Paris on the cover. The funny thing is, I only bought it because of his picture on the cover. Even back then, I was already into bodybuilders, and he was so incredibly handsome, with a stunning physique. It wasn't until I got the magazine home and started to read it that I found the interview where he came out. :eek:

The only such guy that I had an opportunity to see very up close and very personal was Mike Katz... The guy who would always come in second place to Arnold years ago. He lived in my area.

 

Way back when, someone double parked in front of my vehicle and blocked it. I went into the pizza joint where I was sure the offender was waiting for his order. I yelled out, "Who drives a two door whatever and Is blocking my car." At that point Mike Katz of Pumping Iron fame (where he indeed came in second to Arnold) comes up to me and says, "Its mine, ya got a problem with that!" "Oh, no Sir. Take your time. No rush!" He then laughed and glady moved his vehicle. Yes, I told him that he could take all the time that he needef, LOL! In reality, he was a nice guy and apologized... Definitely a decent dude.

 

Still, his chest was so huge that it was beyond being humanoid!

 

Now if he were in a roid-rage cycle there might have been a different outcome!



Just sayin'. Just kidding!



 

Sounds like a fun exchange you had there with him with a close look at his muscle factor as a bonus.

You are correct about that roid rage factor. Had such an unpleasant run in at my gym about 4 years ago with such a character. I didn't back down but did report his conduct which others verified. I always kept my eye on the lookout when he was in the same room as I was afterward until they eventually canned his membership there.

Love this pose with the guy showing some redness on his chest and abs. Why am I getting hard wondering if he enjoyed an intense flogging the night before and this is the residual redness... (With any luck at least a couple of others will like the way that I think as well! And I think you know who you are! ;))

Yes, and that "promising" factor is a nice thing to see & sort of refreshing as compared to the all-too-often shriveled looking boxes we see on many bodybuilders in competition.

A further comment here on Mr. O'Hearn...

Does anyone recall how his facial looks changed markedly several years ago? It used to be that to me his weak chin & lower face area made his head/face seem relatively small & out of proportion with his physique.

Suddenly he had a strong jaw line & embellished chin which complimented his overall look quite nicely & made his masculinity factor rise markedly. By and large I'd have to say that his surgery turned out well for him.

Nevertheless, I can't quite completely erase his prior imagery from my mind.

Damn you @steed8 ! I have been trying to forget what I used to do for so many years. My first thought was that the Mike O'Hearn had orthognathic surgery when you mentioned that his jaw line and lower chin looked different. Not being familiar with the guy I started to compare photos... it was a horrendous job, but someone just had to do it! LOL!

 

However, while his jaw looks more masculine and strong, his profile remains the same. In addition I really don't see a difference in the contoures of his face that would involve his teeth. So I highly doubt that his teeth or jaw were repositioned in the process. (Think Carol Burnett pre and post her surgery.). Consequently I am guessing more plastic surgery and fillers vs. any dental procedure. There are some pics where the jaw looks a bit more square and pronounced. In others he has a scruff beard to disguise things a bit. Eventually one sees the final result which is indeed impressive. In fact it makes his checks and upper jaw blend more appealingly with his lower jaw.

 

I will eventually post some comparison pics when I finish compiling them. Until then here is a peek at the results. I would rate the outcome an A+!

Enough regarding any orthognathic nonsense which my spell-checker keeps changing to orthographic! Tomorrow I promise a return to our regularly scheduled programming!

 

(And if I have bad dreams tonight about teeth and wired jaws I will have a flogger ready with your name on it Mr. Steed!! And be thankful that the ol' black and decker drill is in mothballs!!)
