One of the Brazilian boy dancers in town recommended a Brazilian restaurant to us. He said there are 50,000 Brazilians in the Fort Lauderdale area now, and one of the centers of Brazilian life is Sample Square at 559 E. Sample Road in Pompano Beach/North Fort Lauderdale. Sample Road is the 6th exit on I 95 north of Sunrise, and the mall is a quarter mile east of I 95. Sample Square is a mall with about three dozen stores, all of them Brazilian - restaurants, bars, grocery shops, travel agents, money transfer agencies, clothing stores, etc. This is about 20 minutes north of downtown Fort Lauderdale.

The restaurant, Feijao com Arroz (Beans and Rice) is fantastic! It is located in the middle of the mall to the right. They serve a superb buffet every noon and evening, as well as serving a la carte. The buffet costs $4.99 per pound, a great bargain. The buffet starts with a rotisserie with large pieces of deliciously roasted meats of several kinds. They will slice off as much or little as you like of beef, lamb, and pork. Then there is the cold salad buffet with the best sliced tomatoes I have had in years; they must be home grown. Then there is the hot buffet table with rice, beans, potatoes, and vegetables. There are also plates of chicken and Brazilian sausage. Beverages range from wine and beer to Guarana (a nice, light carbonated beverage) and tea and coffee.

On Saturday nights from 11:00 p.m. to 4 a.m. there is a band and singing and dancing.

But the best is yet to come! The room is filled with handsome, cute, sexy, beautiful Brazilian boys and young men, all sweet and well-behaved. It is an incredible sight. We tried several times, and the noon shift (11:30-2:30) on Saturday is the best. There is often a line of boys/young men standing in front of the restaurant as well.

It is a wonderful opportunity both to enjoy authentic, delicious Brazilian cuisine, as well as to enjoy the finest of Brazilian young men in Florida.

The grocery store on the right of the mall is also a great find. There are hand made Brazilian pastries and appetizers to go at very good prices, as well as jams, jellies, relishes, and many other items from Brazil. And if you want a really good price on airline tickets to Brazil, the travel agency had tickets Miami to Rio on TAM (Brazilian Airlines) for $548 round-trip, all taxes included. Round trip tickets to Sao Paolo are $521. Sample Square is a wonderful area, which cannot be too highly recommended, and Brazilian boys are incredible and delicious.
