I know how she got SSI because I read the psychological assessment which resulted in her being granted SSI payments. I remember shaking my head because it was, in fact, based purely on a Personality Disorder (she is perfectly able-bodied). I don't remember if it was Borderline PD or another one of the "Cluster B" Axis II disorders. And I believe that if someone has a personality problem which interferes with getting along with other people, he should engage in work with minimal person-to-person contact, rather than receive disability payments.

I don't know why you assumed the patient was mean to me. My patients behave politely to me and my staff. Anyone behaving rudely to me, my nurse, or my front office staff will be told to leave, and escorted out if necessary. Just because I treat the poor doesn't mean I tolerate rude behavior.

I'm sorry, but your response merely indicates you do not understand the system yourself. The criterion is very well defined: unable to hold any job available in the workplace. The criterion is not "unable to perform the kind of demanding jobs you've had in the past." Yes, there are private disability policies which allow the policyholder to specify "own occupation" as the criterion, but that's not the social security criterion. And I've still not heard from anyone who knows someone who's been denied SSI (and exhausted their appeals, as opposed to given up on the process and gone back to work).

Hey Matt G,

Thanks for posting the Blade article. I wasn't sure where I read the info. I just remember the paper wrote another editorial on guys being used and discarded in porn & the lack of any residual payment plans(I guess they wanted something similar to sitcoms in syndication)

All My Best,

John
