to pick up on a similar topic-What is a Good DVD Recorder?

 

I would like to get a DVD recorder that would

 

1)have a time so I can record Desperate Housewives and South ark if I am not home

 

2)that I could copy all of my VHS tapes onto DVD

 

any suggestions?

 

I am looking for one no more than a few hundred if possible. Os should I wait a few months to a year when they will be cheaper. There is no hurry for me to get this purchase either. Since I am the only person in the country who does not have a dvd player and I know that regular ones are cheap, I figured why not get a dvd recorder and get rid of the VHS altogether.

What you need/want is one of the TiVo devices with a built-in DVD burner in it. Here is one from Humax for $399 via the TiVo web site. You'll get a $100 rebate on the unit if you buy soon.

You will need a subscription to the TiVo service, so the internal program guide stays updated. TiVo is great! Allows you to blitz through commercials, readily rewind a couple seconds to catch something you missed and pause live TV as you watch it. They're great units!

 

I've had one since the early, early days of TiVo and can not imagine watching TV now without TiVo. The features I listed above barely scratch the surface of what TiVo will do. A terrific product you'll quickly grow to like.

 

From what I've heard, the Humax unit will allow you to burn your old VHS tapes that you recorded yourself on to DVDs. You won't be able to copy your pre-recorded VHS tapes due to the copy protection system used on many of them. (Some are not protected however.)
