"A friend" is traveling BOS-FRA-MSQ and back, on Lufthansa

I'm wondering: Is there a way to book First class BOS-FRA; Economy FRA-MSQ and return; and Business FRA-BOS.

I've seen suggestions of booking it online then trying to upgrade, vs. just booking the whole thing on the phone at one time.

Suggestions?

Book C1-C2 and C2-C1 as an rt ticket. Then book the intra-Europe flights as a separate ticket. For mixed biz/first, you might need phone booking but some of the alternative sites like Vayama and momondo might allow mixed cabin bookings online.

Also, I would recommend doing biz on the way to Germany and first on the way back. Why? The first class lounge in Frankfurt is quite nice. Also, better to start with business then experience first class, rather than the other way around.

Thanks, Mike! Also, my friend has a 4 and a half hour layover on FRA on the way back.

If it were me, I'd send him through NYC on Singapore, JFK-FRA, but therein lies madness, as he's traveling with a group.

Will Lufthansa keep tract of his luggage, or will he have to collect it and re-check it? And would he have to go through security again? Fortunately, his German, whilst rudimentary, exists.

And would he have to go through security again?

If I read your message correctly and the trip started in Minsk, yes he will have to go through security again on a flight to the US.

His return will be minsk - frankfurt then frankfurt - boston. There is such a thing as "transit passengers", and my own (limited) experience with international flying is that baggage claim is BEFORE Immigration and Customs.

I'll have to check. I have a somewhat paternal feeling towards this gentleman.

I flew Lufthansa in November and transited through Frankfurt. You only check bags and go through security at beginning of the trip. It is not confusing or stressful traveling through FRA, except there could be a little more signage for the Senator lounge. Airport staff, most of whom seem to be quite proficient in English, will help one find it. It was much easier to navigate through FRA than many American airports. Way way easier than LHR.

I may be wrong, but in my experience it's not Frankfurt that's the problem; it's city where you started. Does Germany and the U.S. believe Minsk security is trustworthy? In a similar situation, with a flight starting in Sarajevo, I had to go through security again in Muniich before flying to the U.S.

Would a call to Lufthansa clear this up. I have always found the airline very helpful.

Without mentioning where he flew to after Frankfurt, all that information may not be very helpful...it depend on his final destination.
