In reading the various obits on Ramones founder and creative force Johnny Ramone AKA John Cummings I was surprised to find out the following: The quote was taken from the Washington newspaper.

For all his posing as an aging teenager rebel, Johnny Ramone was a lifelong Republican who belonged to the National Rifle Association. When the Ramones were named to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, he said, "God bless President Bush, and God bless America."

He called Ronald Reagan "the greatest president of my lifetime," but in a classic exercise of democracy, he was outvoted by other members of the band when they recorded "Bonzo Goes to Bitburg," a satirical slam at Reagan's visit to a German cemetery in which Nazi troops were buried.

Mr. Ramone had battled prostate cancer for five years. Unlike the lyrics of one of the band's most famous songs, "I Wanna Be Sedated," he faced his ordeal without painkillers. He refused a morphine drip because, C.J. Ramone said, "he didn't want to lose control of his mind."

There are rebels like Johnny in the Republican party as there are True Christians like myself in the Democratic party. It is the diversity in all of us that makes this a great country and the human race so extraordinary.

God be with you.

For me, Johnny Ramone's political beliefs are his business not anyone elses. I for one thought the Ramones were one of the best bands of the last twenty years. I know a really good drummer who works in New York and he told me two nights ago that the Ramones were first and foremost dedicated musicians. Yeah, they were controversial mainly to the press, but they were very much dedicated to their fans. Just like Pearl Jam, the Ramones were one of the best. Sadly, all but no more, they were pioneers of rock music. Their influence will stand the test of time.

I recently heard that the Ramones were in contact with Steve Winwood to possibly duet on a couple of songs that Mr Winwood had written and quite possibly co-produce the album and maybe release the cd in early 2005. I suppose it's a shame that the project will never see the light of day. Jonhnny Ramone will always have a special place in the world of rock music. He was a major inlfuence for a lot of alternative artists over the last ten years. He will be missed by many who adored the music. He was a true legend for his time.

When one is a public figure and expresses in public his political beliefs they no longer are simply his business.

Thankfully John Lennon did not chose the path you have set for Johnny Ramone. Had Lennon done so the world would be a little dimmer.

As for Johnny Ramones talent no disagreement there. He was a brilliant pioneer.

I simply expressed my feelings. I couldn't set the path for anyone but myself. Johnny Ramone was entitled to his beliefs. For those who disagree with him, does anyone think he would have changed his beliefs. Off course not, he was his own person. By making fun of his conservative beliefs. Is it really going to make a difference in the world? As for John Lennon, I always loved his music and his care for humanity. Also I for one have tremendous respect for John Lennon and particularily his upbringing. This guy was born in Liverpool, England, just by the dock yards. Growing up in Mersey Side is very difficult and for a guy like John Lennon to get out of a place like Liverpool was a tough thing and very brave.

Here is a guy who became the conscience of British Rock back in the 1960's and early 1970's. He didn't give a damn what people thought of his political beliefs. He came to America and protested a war in South East Asia that he didn't believe in. A lot of people didn't like him, he didn't care. He did what he wanted to do. I've always respected people who really work hard, rebel with a belief system and and fight the good fight.

Another reason why I liked John Lennon was that he was a football ( soccer ) fan. His favorite English club was Liverpool and mine too or at least it used to be. John Lennon was one of the best

What pomposity!! Of COURSE, such beliefs are simply his business, whether such business disagrees with your PERSONAL agenda or opinions! Everyone, regardless of his profession or "star" status has the RIGHT to express his political opinion/belief on any issue! Just because YOU think such expressions should echo your own opinions, doesn't make it any less of a personal right of expression for that individual! Your statements sound like the type propounded by fags that INSIST that EVERY gay person, who is a public figure, HAS to agree with the prevailing so-called "gay majority opinion", and FAILURE to do so, should entitle the expresee to the most drastic of retaliatory measures!

Wow! Now you are speaking for John Lennon, too!!! Thank you!!! IMO, JL, would have abhorred such a limited "speak what I feel or else" stance!

If he was making public statements about Ronnie Raygun at the Hall of fame of induction, we're hardly talking about "private matters". BTW, Steve Winwood had become A-1 #### by the 80s, doing ads for Baptist Hospital in Nashville, a hospital that health care professionals in Nashville avoided like the plague for its horrible service.
