Malcolm-Jamal Warner will be on The Real Monday, but the show has released a clip in advance. He was asked for his thoughts about how reruns of The Cosby Show have been taken off the air because of multiple allegations of drugging, sexual assault, and rape by Bill Cosby.

Warner has lost a source of revenue because the show is off the air. “It’s literally taking money out of my pocket,” he said. “So I got my own personal feelings about that, because it personally affects me.” The sitcom star said he has noticed the outrage seems to be hypocritical, seemingly pointing out a racial bias. “I can’t help but think about Woody Allen, Roman Polanski, Stephen Collins, um, who it’s very clear … um, you know, the crimes they’ve committed, but there’s no one that, you know, has been calling for Woody’s movies to be pulled off the air. Roman Polanski is still celebrated.”

That being said, he declined to support his former television dad. “I am in no position to defend him because I can’t,” he said. “But nor will I throw him under the bus.

Let's face it, Cosby is off the air because no one would watch it. I certainly can't look and the Cliff Huxtable the same way now that I know what the actor that portrayed him did. If he had made edgy dark adult movies, it may have been different (not that I am in any way condoning or excusing his behavior), but a serial rapist playing the perfect dad on TV is too much to stomach.

I don't have a problem with Jamal-Warner decrying the effect on his income because he had nothing to do with and no control over the reasons that caused it. But I question his comparisons.

I'm not familiar with Stephen Collins or what he's alleged to have done, but Polanski pled guilty, apparently expecting to get probation, and allegations of sexual abuse against Allen also went through the court system. Allen's liaison and eventual marriage to girlfriend Mia Farrow's adopted daughter Soon-Yi Previn is also public knowledge, as is his status as co-parent to three of Farrow's children, two adopted and one biological. Until recently, there was little public airing of accusations against Cosby, whose lawyers silenced and bought off many accusers and kept him from any legal reckoning whatsoever.

I think defending Polanski as "not a criminal" is sickening, but I also think it odd to extradite him after many years' quiescence and the opposition of his victim. Allen is a pig, but if Soon-Yi is happy with him, so be it. That the two of them were fucking while he was still in a relationship that Farrow had reason to believe was exclusive and that he had a photo in his living room of Soon-Yi's private parts, which is how Farrow found out, is disgusting, especially since he was (and as far as I know still is) the legal father of three of Soon-Yi's siblings. When Dylan Farrow's accusations were first made, I thought they might be retaliation on Farrow's behalf. (Given the number of children Farrow has adopted in a short period of time, she doesn't come off looking too great either.) But I've changed my mind now that Dylan has renewed the accusations as an adult.

What would be selfish would be for Cosby to complain about his show being off the air. As Mattr says, it's one thing to watch a movie with adult themes (though I've had no interest in Allen movies since the Soon-Yi situation and little interest in Polanski's movies, although I might rewatch previous movies of theirs) and another to buy Cosby as the perfect father and husband.

Exactly, besides showing the race card on this issue is nothing but a cheap shot! Maybe Jamal-Warner needs to start going to castings or even better get into another kind of job... but he should stop blaming the accusers, media, racism (slavery) for his loss of income, after all he had a good run for many years living of royalties, he should have saved the money, invest it or get another job now.

Maybe he should be on "Celebrity weight loss" show....?

Stephen Collins' 7th Heaven reruns had been pulled, but the shows are back on the air now. I think that because Stephen Collins' case is not nearly so high profile they're able to get away with it. Cosby reruns would probably be watched, but the network would take heavy abuse and would have to cave to public indignation.

Okay, now I know who Collins is.

I think Jamal-Warner is a pretty damn handsome 45 year-old.

I agree that his accusations seem a little off, but consider this from Stephen Collins' Wikipedia page:

"In a December 2014 interview with
magazine, Collins admitted he had "inappropriate sexual conduct with three female minors" in 1973, 1982, and 1994"

The Cosby Show's reruns are off the air because of its primary actor's alleged and reported sexual misconduct, while 7th Heaven's reruns are still on the air in spite of its primary actor's admitted sexual misconduct with minors. As I noted above, I think the discrepancy is a result of the ongoing high profile coverage of Cosby and the comparative notoriety between Cosby and Collins. With Collins' history though, I wouldn't want to be the one to debate with Malcolm Jamal-Warner as to whether race is a factor.

Now that I've been reminded who Collins is, I think race is a factor, but not the most important one. It was useful to white people's self-image to have a black man to look up to. Cosby, who earned a doctorate in education, was that man. His show was iconic. 7th Heaven, not so much.

Also, by continuing to deny allegations he more or less confirmed in his deposition, Cosby is keeping the allegations alive. The public has a terrible memory and a propensity to forgive. By admitting the truth of the allegations, Collins has put them behind him.

I agree with you regarding Jamal-Warner, who probably wishes he had the charisma of Anthony Anderson.

Looks like I got the hyphens wrong. He's got two first names and one last name.

You're jumping to conclusions regarding the residual income from the show. Warner didn't say that he made his living off that show. He did say that cancelation of the reruns personally affect him, which is true. He did seem to state it as a matter of fact. Also, he has been working steadily through the past few decades.

WASHINGTON (AP) — The Smithsonian now plans to acknowledge the sexual-assault allegations against Bill Cosby at its new African-American history museum on the National Mall, which will include two items related to Cosby’s career in television and standup comedy.

The museum’s founding director, Lonnie Bunch, said in a statement Thursday that visitors to the exhibit will recognize that Cosby’s “legacy has been severely damaged.”
