I had just started to work out some holiday plans for Boston in mid-September when I was told last week that I needed a biopsy. My Boston plans are now on hold. If the biopsy works out well however, I will want to go to Boston as planned; but I may not be able to make it until the first 10 days of October.

Will some of you on this thread who live in Boston or who know the city well tell me about typical weather for Boston in early October? Would this be a good time to visit the city at least as far as the weather is concerned? Are most of the leaves gone by then?

The beginning of October is the perfect time to visit Boston, weatherwise. It can be warm, or cool and crisp, but usually comfortable. Traditionally, Columbus Day weekend (second weekend of October) is considered to be the peak of foliage color in New Hampshire and Vermont. In Boston the leaves will still be on the trees, and will have great color in early October. And Boston will be filled with college kids.

Boston in October is the BEST time for a visit. The weather is perfect. Warm (70s) days and cool nights which may require you to wear sweaters, light jacket. The foliage is in full bloom in the surrounding areas and this brings in the tourists. They not only visit Boston but take day tours to the foliage areas. For this reason, getting accomodations in hotels can be difficult. Would recommend you make reservations now and, if necessary, cancel them later.

Yep I will second or third it, Boston in October is very nice, if it is a good year the trees are so colorful they can actually look as though they are on fire! The colors in Northern MA an NH are so nice! The weather is usually nice that time of the year, however be prepared it can be cold. Two years ago friends came out in OCT and that year it was downright cold (they were from CA so it was worse). Enjoy the city also, great time to sightsee.. If you want any specific info or have any specific questions please feel free to email me through the site I will try to answer them!
