The Best Burger

For those of you traveling to NYC, I have a very expensive recommendation for fine dining...Ralph Lauren's Polo Bar at Fifth Ave and 55th St.

 

A friend and I dined there Sunday evening for a birthday celebration and I was blown away.

 

First the decor...so typically RL, lots of green plaids and reds and horse pictures/artwork abound. It's a lovely space and they made a wise choice to break the room into dining alcoves, so you are not in a massive noise heavy space. Seating is extremely comfortable and you can actually have a conversation without screaming loudly at your dining partner.

 

Second, the food. I thought the menu somewhat eclectic but I had the Ralph burger. Made from beef raised on his ranch, it was delicious and cooked perfectly. The fries were perfectly cooked. We had oysters for appetizers and they, too were terrific. Popovers are served coated with caramelized onions and are very good. The only problem I found was the wine list which, frankly, is waaaay too expensive. Wines by the glass are equally pricey.

 

Third, the servers and the restaurant staff. I was blown away (alas, not literally) by the handsome and young group of young men (and women) who are the waitstaff. The guys are young and gorgeous (and many gay!). Most could pass for models. They are friendly and very conscientious, and all dressed in RL. I was in my glory!! I loved it.

 

And so, this is a special occasion place and the prices are steep. I cannot wait to go back. Reservations are a must, and I would advise making one at least 30 days prior.
