In the season five winter finale that aired Thursday night, Olivia Pope (Kerry Washington) had an abortion after learning that she was pregnant with Fitz's (Tony Goldwyn) child. In the same episode, Mellie (Bellamy Young) successfully filibustered a bill that would have defunded Planned Parenthood.

I'm sure Fox News would love to have this on for a week. LOL

I don't know how anyone watches any of those Sondra Rhimes shows. They're complete worthless trash from beginning to end. I actually feel embarassed for an actress the caliber of Viola Davis. As good as she is, there aren't roles for her on the big screen, I'm guessing, so she has to do garbage like How to Get Away with Murder.

What makes them trash as opposed to not appealing to your personal taste? I'm haven't watched them all as thoroughly as you since you say "from beginning to end". I've only ever watched some Scandal and Grey's Anatomy they seem to be no different from any other nighttime soap as far as content. The casts are very good (Viola Davis, Tony Goldwyn, Sandra Oh, Kate Burton, Liza Weil, Kate Walsh, Chandra Wilson, Tony winners Sara Ramirez and Audra McDonald): Directing seems to be top caliber, as well as cinematography, high budgets, and between them they seem to offer more roles for minority actors and writers than all the other shows on broadcast and cable combined. You are right there are not enough roles for women like Viola Davis or Kerry Washington on the big screen, but it archaic to think TV in general is worse than movies, even if HTGAWM is bad there are tons of quality shows getting great performances from talented actors, so TV is not really "slumming it" anymore.

It really is just a matter of personal taste. You couldn't pay me to sit through an episode of "Downton Abbey" but I love "How To Get Away With Murder." I know that it is an unrealistic soap opera, but I don't watch television for realism. I just want to be entertained. And I find the relationship between Connor and Oliver very, very entertaining. I also like the way that Connor is an unapologetic slut and not some politically correct gay made for broadcast TV. Not fond of Shonda's other shows, but she definitely knows how to push an envelope.
