LA County officials want to publicly shame johns - vote next week

The ordinance would allow the county to publish names and photos of those charged with soliciting or loitering with intent to solicit prostitution.

 

My favorite paragraphs:

 

"Michael Shively, a researcher who studied municipal approaches to combatting sex trafficking for the National Institute of Justice in Washington, D.C., and now runs a website outlining initiatives around the United States, said there has been no formal social science research on the effectiveness of “john shaming” campaigns.

 

But, he said, 'There are many reasons to think it probably is effective.'"

 

The motion is set to be adopted Tuesday morning. I'm applying for a three minute block of time to address the board and maybe slow down this crazy train.

OMG this is a THROWBACK to pre-historic times!!! Like the NY papers back in the pre-stonewall days when they'd PRINT the NAMES AND ADDYS of men arrested in bar raids!! (then a few days later print the suicide notices that often followed )
