Happy birthday John Lennon!

Receding silver hair tied back in a stringy pony-tail; thick glasses perched on his thin nose, a wiry old man steps creakily into the spotlight, blinking into the vast space where an audience roar their love. It is John Lennon, veteran rocker, political activist, acclaimed author and winner of the Nobel Peace Prize for his role as figurehead of the anti-war movement that did so much to heal global wounds during the first turbulent decade of the 21st century.

 

What would he say, what would he play on this, the occasion of his 75th birthday at Madison Square Garden?

What would he think of social media? The Falkands war, Margaret Thatcher, Tony Blair's as Bush's poodle, Iraq war, etc?

He got his American green card and had been notified that he could apply for citizenship in 1981. Although he intended to apply for citizenship, he was murdered in December 1980. Because a recipient need not be a citizen and the award can be given posthumously, perhaps the Presidential Medal of Freedom can be awarded to Lennon by President Obama?
