From my first post on the thread: HE WAS STRAIGHT, THAT WAS THE REALITY. TODAY THEY MIGHT ATTACH THE NEG LABEL G4P, BUT HE REALLY WASN'T HE WAS G4F (FAVORS IF GUYS WHO HELPED HIM CAREER WISE WANTED TO SERVICE HIM, HE'D GIVE THAT TO THEM. EVEN HIS CLOSEST FRIEND WHO SAID THEY WERE INTIMATE ONCE SAID IT WAS MORE A "GIFT" FROM JIMMY BECAUSE HE LOVED HIM AND JIMMY KNEW HE WANTED IT SO MUCH. BUT HE LIKED GIRLS

 

So far I am the only person who has posted about remembering the day James Dean died. Sixty years later there are still people who believe James Dran was gay or bi. Many people want Dean to be gay. The gay for favors explanation makes sense. My conclusion: James Dean did not live long enough to classify. I have not done as much research as you, Tonyko. But, I doubt that James Dean will ever be thought as just one thing in his sexuality, acting or life.

Well in fairness lol on this board 60 years is a LONG time ago age-wise to have a memory of and how fortunate you are to have the memory of it. My op re what he would have become sexually had he lived; the story I was told at Shelly Winter's who knew him I think says a lot; don't "think" it's made it into any of the books could be wrong; but this was during his pre-fame days when I believe Eden was already done but hadn't been released yet. A bunch of friends played a trick on hin knowing he was coming over they turned down the lights and the guys and gals layed around on the floor in various sexual embraces guys w shirts off etc including same gender embraces etc to make it look like he was walking into an orgy. Apparantly rather than laughing knowing it was a joke (or being shocked), when he came in he simply started undressing. (I don't remember what the outcome was ie his reaction when they said they were joking etc etc) BUT that says to me he was just very SEXUALLY free. I think he prolly would have been like Brando, a hetereosexual man who's relationships were with women BUT who was sexually free enough to give themself to men they loved and cared about who truly loved them. (I believe Brando kept former roommate actor Wally Cox's ashes and stated in his will they were to be enterred together

I would have been just starting the 7th grade when James Dean died. My sixth grade teacher talked somewhat frequently about television shows and films. It was her last year before becoming a principal -- definitely ahead of her time. She also treated us as adults as much as children, so am sure James Dean was mentioned in class.

 

I knew exactly who James Dean was at age 12 -- even if I just one of his films, "East of Eden," was in theaters. It may have been sixty years ago, but I remember reading the story on the front page of the newspaper. It was very shocking because of his age and potential.
