James Dean died sixty years ago, as of this Wednesday, Sept 30.

Dean did a lot of TV world before he appeared in films. TCM is showing much of his half-hour and hour TV work tonight Friday, Sept 25 at 8 PM for about six hours. It includes a hour drama with Betsy Palmer. I doubt that a cable network has devoted so much time to his TV work. I am not really a bog James Dean fan, but I am still very interested!

Mixed feeelings about James Dean's TV work. At the beginning he played criminals, and was usually a tough guy. Eventually, he received better roles and you can see his talent, but always within the limits of the script in in a live TV drama. The photo above is from 1955. That's the way he looked in the last few TV shows, actually younger because of his hair style than in earlier TV shows. I am glad I watched the TMC shows. Dean's TV shows have not been seen since the nights they were broadcast in the early 1950s. My guess is that The Paley Centers have some.
